The Countach in the youtube vid is not a turbo. It's just a Quattrovalvole with a tuned exhaust.

Erm...correct me if I am wrong but isn't aluminum very flexible? Not really appropriate for a chassis, is it?

Yeah they use aluminum, but not on the entire car. You need a stronger base, otherwise the car won't pass the NCAP.

It depends VERY much on the particular alloy, how it's formed, thickness, etc. etc. etc.

Someone better inform Porsche and BMW.
Oh fuck! Lotus is in HUGE trouble... the entire Elise/Exige Chassis is aluminum/aluminium!

Oh and so is the new Evora!

Then of course there are the Audi A2's, A8's and Jag XJ's.

GM is even in on this bad idea with the Corvette Z06 chassis, which is *gasp!* even made of Bolsa wood to help strengthen it.

And the ZR1

I can't wait to see these guys try making an ENGINE from this stuff.

Interesting fact, only reason why steel has been used in the past 15 odd years is because major manufacturers were all gonna jump to aluminum (bad for the steel industry) so they got off their asses and developed better/lighter steels.

So without it the chassis wouldn't work... sounds to me like it's there to help strengthen it.
Who said it wouldn't work without it? I didn't read that anywhere. Just because it is "perfect" for the job doesn't mean it wouldn't work without it. It just wouldn't be as good.
