Best looking engine ever made?

Come on...someone had to :D

if your going to post an RB atleast post a really nice looking one. To be fair this isn't exactly a stock motor it's a Tomei tuned RB26 with their 2.8L stroker kit and custom twin turbo kit. that whole engine can be yours for a mere 30K+ with shipping

I don't like to flame other people's views but...no. Just no. Especially on the M5. You pay out loads of money and when you pop the hood you see a plastic cover that looks like it cost a whole $5. Yuck!

The Italians do engines right.

Well then the same thing can be said about Audi, Merc and 100+ other car manufacturers out there. They all have plastic cover on the engine.

Bugatti Type 41 had 300hp in 1926 :D

I won't argue with you (that particular model duesy was a '30, they had been around since 27 :D) But I will say this, Bugatti and Duesenberg were the two greatest auto manufacturers ever. I wish somebody had the money to bring the Duesy name back like VW did with Bugatti. I wouldn't mind seeing two viper V10's bolted together in a 1200hp 16.8 liter V20 Duesenberg :D

KaJun: you should know better, there's sophistimicated German trickery under that hideous plastic duvet box.

I think this is "Pre-Germans". If anything, it's has Indonesian sorcery!

Only 2.8 Litres? What a POS......:D As the yanks here will attest to, there is no replacement for displacement.

RB30 is what you want :) or more to the point a 25/30 or 26/30. But then again the Japanese don't do this so it must suck (sarcasm)

The problem is the whole RB serries is fundamentally flawed since they are so damn heavy. And another nasty fact is they sound so woeful....I should own up to the fact I do own one, lol. Its a love hate relationship!

hmm I thought the RB30 block wasn't strong enough to handle lots of power. Sure for a 400bhp twin trubo with a powerband as wide as the avg americans ass it's great but if you were looking for much more than 500bhp the 26 block is a better choice. Of course you live in a country that actually got all of the RB motors and i am recalling threads from over at HybridZ so i bow to your superior knowledge.

all that being said the Tomei RB26 is way hotter looking than the RB30 you posted

Yamaha (for Ford) knows how to make some pretty ones:

*sigh* Americans and RB's.....not the best combination! I have wonderful blue cam covers on my own RB30 twincam.....I'll have to dig up some photos! 8)

The problem is actually the crank. Around 7800 is the limit on a RB30 crank, there is a resonance problem. Then again at that RPM with a considerable amount of boost you are really moving so what the point? pull another gear! One local here make a stroker crank to take his out to 3.4 Litres by offset grinding and metal spraying. Goes like stink.

Virtually nobody with RB30's has block failures to the point of splitting bores. The odd rod out the side (then again that happends with all RB's) thats it. The main problem with the early RB motors is oil pump failure. RB26's included. I've killed one and needed a vvt RB25DE oil pump which fixed the problem :)

Besides the Australian built R31 Skyline (and some patrols), the RB30 (and turbo, no R31 3litre turbo) where only found in GM's Holden VL Commodore which gives the RB30 a bit of a stigma of being a "GM trash motor" *sigh*

3.4L turbo RB... jesus i bet that thing moves
