Bicycles!

I didn?t expect to see so many nice bikes!

Too bad nice ones are so expensive, and to make matters worse, any bike worth more than a few hundred bucks is at risk of being stolen at gun point. Do you guys have this problem?

I have a Schwinn something or other that I got at Target 1-2yrs ago, but I'm wanting a better bike. Prefer off roading to street biking because the way people drive around here.. scares me. Whats a good bike under $300?

My parents have two TREKs from the early/mid 90s, street bikes, just got them worked on.. yet they haven't used them yet. Was thinking of using my mom's while trying to sell my Schwinn and get a better one. I know nothing about bikes :(

Well, for some time I didn't want to bring my bicycle to school because it's white and shiny and has disc brakes, so I was afraid it was too eye catching. These days I ride it to school normally and no one touches them :D

Depends how you look at it. You wouldn't expect an executive sedan or a sportscar to cost only as much as a Dacia, would you?

Well, bike hijacking I've never heard of. ;) Ordinary thefts can be a problem though, depends on town and which part of town. In my area it's not that bad.
But anyway, I don't leave my road bike unattended in the open ever. For the trekking bike I have two locks. And my insurance covers bike theft. Both bikes were not that expensive anyway.

I don't ride a lot these days but these are my two bikes.

I never leave mine out of sight. It's a Mountainbike... i don't use it for any other thing than biking in our local forests.
Well i'm always biking with a friend. Sometimes i buy a drink during the trip. But then he'll wait outside with the bikes.

I would never leave it at university or anywhere else where i can't see it.

By "problem", I mean someone pointing a gun to you and saying "Get off the bike and give me your stuff".
Theft doesn?t scare me, but getting pulled over by an armed robber does.

And here a decent bike is upwards of USD700, don?t know how much it costs elsewhere.

Then you might like mine. It's got a 49cc 2-stroke and it goes about 30mph. It's a lot of fun plus it's great for going to work since it uses a fraction of the gas my car does. I can go 2 weeks to work before filling up again.

i wouldn't want to be seen dead on that thing

just get a camino or sth if you want an engine to throttle along

i expect it'll only cost a fraction as well

@Redliner

Mine was 1400 US $. But i've never heard of a "robbery". Yes, Bikes get stolen a lot when they are unattended. But i can not imagine that someone comes to you and rob it right under your ass. No way that's gonna happen here

I haven't heard of that happening here either. All of the stolen bike reports I've heard have happened when the bike was unattended.

Trek 3700 barely used sitting on top my weight-lifting machine (also barely used :p)

Can't find pics of my commuters (<- the s is there since 3 has been stolen) on this computer though

While on the topic of being robbed, I haven't head of such cases here, but some kid that did get jumped by a couple dudes and they made off with his bike a year or two back. Also there have been reports of idiots and sabotaging stunts, stringing a fishing line between trees a while ago...

I have a Land Rover Vivorata, no pictures at the moment, but it's half way between a road bike and an MTB. I've put some proper slick road tyres on it, because all I do is bomb around on the roads to uni and elsewhere.
Would dearly like to save up for a proper road bike though. There's some nice stuff in this thread....

I have a Trek Navigator 3.0.

It makes a great grocery getter.

I love the Navigators!
I want to buy one when I go out to ride just in the city. :)

Got this last year as a cheapest decent bicycle, and was quite good in general. Apart from broken pedals, it held up for some 500-600 km now.

I'm surprised at how many of you guys' bikes have disc brakes, yet not a single one of you so far has posted a full-suspension bike!

Sadly, my mountain bike is currently hanging in my parents' garage in California (so no pics). It's a blue & white full-suspension (with i-Drive!) GT, bought before they went bankrupt. I loved it, because for my friends and me, bikes were our ticket to freedom before we got our driver's licenses (we used them a couple times to get to the hobby shop and mall a few towns over, which was a pretty big deal for us as middle school kids). Natrually, our bike-riding had a steep drop as soon as we got said licenses. :p

I still like to take it on the trails at least once when I make trips to California, though, just because the scenery and weather is so beautiful, especially compared to here.

Seems no one here does downhill. ;) For most other uses, a fully is not necessary, or even harmful. Rear suspension eats energy. Your energy.

People usually have full-suspension bikes for downhill riding. For mountain biking a front suspension is enough, apart from being cheaper, simpler and lighter.

EDIT: DanRom posted while I was writing.
