So Toyota, a company with well-regarded reliability and high initial quality ratings, is looking to Ford, a company with recently low initial quality and customer satisfaction ratings, to help with the very system that is causing many of Ford's recent satisfaction dings?

Have you tried connecting your phone to a Toyota Display Audio headunit with the Entune app? It's terrible. Anything would be better.

It is good to see that we are considered nothing more than a fool or sheep to be force fed commercials that we don't want.

Drivers aren't interested in all those high-tech features

1 out of every 5 new vehicle owners has never used half of the 33 technology features measured by the annual survey.

technological features have a brief 30-day window for gaining acceptance among drivers

J.D. Power says there are 14 features that 20 percent or more of owners could go without in their next vehicles, including Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, in-vehicle concierge services and in-vehicle voice texting.

There are a few reasons why these technologies have not been widely adopted, Kolodge said. In many cases, new vehicle owners said they did not find certain features useful, or indicated the technology came as part of package of options they didn't want.
That's my biggest problem every time I think about buying a new car. Inevitably there are a couple options that I want but are only available as part of a package that adds thousands of dollars of equipment that I have zero interest in having.

I read an article recently about how someone "successfully" installed Android Auto in their Mazda Connect system. It crashes constantly, crazy low frame rate, some of the functions don't work, it breaks some of the original functionality of the car's system, and voids the warranty. But..."success." :)

Honestly, in my car, I only wish the maps could be updated more often, and I wish the navigation factored in traffic...other than that, I love it. In my GF's Golf, however. I would actually prefer to use Apple Maps over the VW-native navigation.

I used Carplay for the first time a few days ago and I can't say I was thrilled. My biggest issue was that you can't use Google Map through your phone, and while your phone is in CarPlay mode, you can't use the vehicle's native nav. With Apple Maps still being a gigantic pile of shit, this was a pretty big deal.

You also can't disable individual features of CarPlay. Its all or nothing. Again using Maps as an example, if you're traveling to another country and don't get data on your phone, you can't disable that one part of the software. You either get a big blank screen with Apple Maps (no data) or no CarPlay at all (to use the vehicle's native nav). Also theres too much drastic screen switching from Apple to native and back to control various features vehicle features.

I'll need to play around with it more to get a better understanding of the system, but from first impressions, if I were to own a car with the feature, I would NOT use it, and you know what they say - The first impression is the last impression.

Can you use like the radio or CD player when carplay is open?

Good question. I didn't try the native audio features. Will need to investigate, but presumably yes. The way I see it is the radio and CD through the car's interface and switching to CarPlay for USB/streaming music. Seems really clunky.
