TOP Gear star Jeremy Clarkson has been hailed a hero after a bloody TV bust up with hate figure Ian Hislop.

The controversial petrol head won new fans when he wounded the smug Have I Got News For You? team captain.

Best-selling author Jeremy, 48, threw a strop while hosting the BBC show after the smarmy star accused him of not writing his own work.

He flew into a rage and chucked a pen at Hislop ? who also edits Private Eye ? catching him in the neck and apparently drawing blood.

An audience member said: ?Jeremy was not impressed by the comments and flung the pen at Ian.

?He appeared to be bleeding and seemed stunned by the attack.

?It was just a bit of fun but it was great to see Ian on the receiving end for a change.

?Viewers are used to him sitting there making snide digs at everyone, so it was funny to see him finally getting his comeuppance.?

Hislop, 48, refused to back down. He held on to the pen and snapped back at Clarkson: ?I?ll keep this as you obviously have no use for it then.?

Clarkson had lost his rag after being accused of using ghost writers for his news-paper columns.

Battling Jeremy has already taken on another public hate figure ? smug Britain?s Got Talent judge Piers Morgan, 43.

While filming last night?s show he told Hislop: ?You?re only the second person I?ve wounded in my life.?

Former newspaper editor Morgan claims to still have a scar above his eyebrow after a run in with Clarkson.

They clashed after he published snaps of the married Top Gear star apparently kissing his female boss.

Fiery Jeremy was alleged to have flung a glass of water over him on a plane and punched him in the head at an awards ceremony in revenge attacks.

His spat with Hislop took place as the stars recorded the episode that went out last night on BBC1. An extended version of the show can be seen on BBC2 tonight.

But it was funny. Jezza was on top form. Guests were good too.

God, the Daily Star is even worse than the Sun and the Mirror combined. What a load of ********!

Could the person that wrote that have possibly actually seen the show?

The only thing that is true is Jeremy did chunk a pen.

Actually, rewatching it now, it was blood indeed. You can see Ian wipe it clean twice. :!:

Edit: Anyway, it was great fun, like being back in school again :D I wonder if health & safety introduce face masks for the next programme :D

Yea it doesn't seem like the author watched it, they were both laughing the whole time. Is the Daily Star a tabloid or something? Obviously I've never heard of it here in the states.

Oh my God! How could a 'journalist' get it so epically wrong? I think you are right Skylock, they can't have seen the show.
I reckon Ian Hislop finds it as funny as the rest of us, and as for Jeremy flying into a rage what b*****ks!

All it seemed watching the first time was a bit of joking, but on second viewing it would appear that Jeremy gets into a mild flap murderous rage, leaps onto the desk, and jumps at Hislop. He then throws repeatedly stabs him in the face neck face with a pen M9 Bayonet Katana.

good god! I was beginning to think I was watching a different show entirely reading that.

I didn't know Ian Hislop was a hate figure for a start...well, apart from amongst the people he writes about in Private Eye.

the guy who wrote this should get a job in politics with that kind of spin

Private Eye is not shy about calling the owner of The Daily Star (and Express) a pornographer. Because he is. And the Eye also mentioned that the owner took prizes advertised for readers and gave them to his kids and advertised prizes which were second hand. (A VW camper van, I think.)

Wow, this is the worst spin I've ever seen on journalism. And I am studying Communications in university right now...

Last night's HIGNFY was a great laugh. I was cracking so hard that I had to re-watch that scene 20 times. :D

"Oh no, Jeremy has thrown a pen at me because he had no use for it!"
"Oh he's drawn blood!"
"I think you'll find that it's ink."
"Is it a red pen?"
"Yes it's a red pen. It's what I use to correct Private Eye every week."

Bloody brilliant.

Is Ian Hislop actually a hate figure? I quite like him on the show...

I reckon whoever wrote that news article should get a job in Private Eye.

daily star

same league as the daily fail

having just watched this HIGNFY today... they have severely sensationalised the story....no change there then!

i never knew hislop was a hate figure, and the whole thing seemed completely in jest rather than him actually getting mad and deliberately hurting someone

for non UK'ers.... the sun, mirror, daily mail, daily star, the people and to an extent the express are pretty much all garabge and are only worth reading for entertainment value rather than for actual news.

Got to love the fact that the art of fiction has not been lost. Not that it's very good fiction.....

Hislop is not a hate figure. Outside of journalist and political circles at least. And then only a hate figure for bad journalists (e.g. Piers Moron) and corrupt politicans (e.g. Jonathan Aitken).
