Electric vehicles emit more CO2 than diesel ones, German study shows

Here's a thought. If we move to a more hydrogen based economy will that mean more water vapour in the air, more cloud coverage and a dimming effect that could contribute to lowering global temperatures? If so then it could be a useful side effect of the switch.

Alternatively one thing nobody mentions, ever, in the media when talking about climate change is that water vapour itself is a major greenhouse gas so if we move away from fossil fuels to a hydrogen infrastructure would we simply be replacing one demon with another. Water vapour and clouds contribute to between 36% and 72% of the greenhouse effect apparently, compared to between 9% and 26% for CO2 depending on concentrations.

By now I am 85% convinced hydrogen is the way forward.

Depends on whether we get H from hydrocracking or some other means, if the former then really it's going to be same amount of water vapor as we have now.

I just checked the offerings on the German Ford page..........oh god, what a sad lineup. Mustang, GT, Fiesta ST are the only interesting cars, the rest is...bland.

The latest study on the ‘CO2 lag’ of electric cars comes from the University of Liège in Belgium. Calculations by Professor Damien Ernst, originally commissioned by a TV show and reported by local newspaper HLN, are by far the most negative take on EVs yet.

Using the average CO2 output of the European electricity network, Ernst concluded that an electric car using a 60kWh battery made in Europe would have to travel some 700,000 kilometres (435,000 miles) before it is “greener than an average petrol car”. However, Ernst also says that a fully renewable European grid would reduce the EV’s CO2 lag to just 30,000km (18,640 miles).
