EV Batteries

What about all the laptop, tablet, and cell phone manufacturers?

So how to do Ford, GM, VW, BYD sell this?
They don’t. They use prismatic cells in their EVs. As the article states. Exactly because of the concerns that seem to materialize in BYDs hybrids (!).
That last bit may be an important part, since the usage profile in a hybrids is wildly different from a BEV.

The Article states that those are not pouch either.

huh, you're right. then the original article rather clearly mis-states that.

What about all the laptop, tablet, and cell phone manufacturers?
should've actually guessed from this that reuters didn't know what they were on about, cause the article said those weren't pouch cells either... which is daft, cause they clearly are, as can be seen from the numerous smartphone bulging situations a few years back.

the difference really must lie with the usage profile of the hybrid being completely different from a BEV then and possibly the fact that the thermal management as well as the rest of the battery structure are simply better suited for protecting the pouches. haven't seen any reports (otherwise we'd have a bunch of "evs are deathtraps!!!!" articles) of problems with those, anyway.

... looking at these videos, I find it quite shocking just how badly some of these battery packs seems to be made, or rather designed. oof. seems weird that that's actually a mass-production result sometimes.
