With stats of 0-60 mph in under 9 seconds and top speed of 120 mph were the Trans Am 455 and BMW 530i 4 speeds, the fastest full 4 seater cars in 1975? I can't think of any others.:|

Lamborghini Espada or the Mercedes 600 SWB?

discounting the caveat on America - Ford Falcon GTHO Phase 3, 0-60mph in 6.5 seconds

If you include grey-market examples, the Mercedes 450SEL 6.9 has got to be up there, if not on top. Need to find stats on the smog-strangled US versions though.

0-60 in about 7 seconds, top speed in excess of 150mph. A few years later one would literally be the fastest car in North America when it won the Cannonball Run.

It would run down both the 530i and SD455 Poncho like they weren't moving.

The 6.9 was the first car I thought of, but they weren't imported until 1977.

Ferrari 365 GT4 2+2?

Also, I can't really figure out if the Maserati Bora had rear seats or not. It could probably make the claim if it did.

Edit:

Also this:

The Bora was a 2-seater but the V6 Merak was a 2+2. Not sure if it would've been fast enough though.

If this was three years later, you could definitely cram four people in this. One guy in the bed, anyway.

^ I was going to post that, but I figured it probably didn't quite fit the criteria.

But in 1978 that truck was pretty much the fastest thing on the road in America.

In 78, Subaru BRAT style rear facing jump seats mounted in the bed were both legal and popular in some parts of the US, so it could be a 5 seater.

well, i know what wasn't the fastest at least, a 4 cylinder Mustang II :p

I had a 75 Buick Electra 225 that would go faster than 120, and the speedo read up to 120. It sat 6 in the couches on wheels.

As a fresh Volvo driver I've got to put Volvo 164 E on that list too. It does pass the first posts limits, just: 8,7 sec 0-100 km/h and 193,5 km/h

You could smuggle in a Dolly Sprint... 0-60 in less than 9 seconds and a top speed of anywhere between 115 and 120mph, depending on how well it was built and tuned...

Never actually sold in the US, although there are a few over there now. At least you can fit people with legs in the back, unlike some of the cars posted here. :p

What rental cars were available in 1975?

Im guessing you mean fastest NEW car that was sold as a 1975 model?

I would presume it would have be a Porsche or Jaguar. Was Ford still selling Detomaso Panteras in 1975?
