All right, Mr. DeMille, I'm ready for my closeup!

Timeframe: Your entry must be emailed to finalgearphoto@gmail.com on or before midnight Mountain Time, August 31st, 2009.
Prize: Bragging rights, and a position in the Winners' Gallery!

Restrictions: Please follow the following restrictions in order to submit an eligible entry.

- Your image must be a maximum of 1000 pixels (height or width), and a minimum of 500 pixels (height or width).
- Your submission email should have the title of the image and "Contest #20" in the subject. Please title your images, as the poll must have some way to distinguish between them - I don't want half the vote options to be "Untitled."
- Also, when you email your submission, make sure you include your FinalGear screen name so I know who's submitting what!
- Only one submission per user. Please do not create multiple accounts to submit more images, as it is 1) unethical, and 2) statistically reduces your chance of winning anyway.
- Your image must NOT contain any borders or signatures or anything to identify the photo as your own. The images will be stripped of EXIF data as to make the vote 100% anonymous. Please do not mention which photo is yours, and please do not post that image anywhere until the contest is over.
- Your image must have been taken after the contest has started, I will not accept old photos that happen to match the subject. This contest is designed to promote creativity, not find out who has the biggest backlog of good photos.
- Your image may be altered in whatever imaging software you choose, without actually altering the content of the photograph. (i.e. you can alter the curves as much as you want, but you can't paste in David Hasselhoff.) Editing out distracting non-content objects such as power lines is also acceptable.
- Please keep the submissions tasteful and without gore/nudity. I like nude photography as much as the next guy, but this is a public forum. Don't submit anything you wouldn't put up in a public area.

If you have any comments or suggestions about the rules of the FinalGear contests, please voice them in the appropriate forum, or in this thread if you want.

When submitting your image, feel free to suggest a topic for the next contest!

Good luck, and have fun!

Be careful if you shoot Nikon: make sure those have, at minimum, a mechanical linkage to the aperture lever. Otherwise, you'll only be able to shoot at the minimum aperture of any G lens.

CPU and AF linkages would, of course, be nice to have.

They don't. Are you not able to do the DOF preview button hack with Nikons? (hold DOF preview button, remove lens, ???, profit) .....at least on Nikons that have a DOF preview button that is. :p

also I've heard that if you lose the knob on the front of those tubes that there's no way to get your lens detached :S

Damn. Just last week I was using a Nikon 105 Macro in a meadow. Grrrrrr @ time limits

As the aperture linkage on the lens is spring-loaded, I don't think so.

BCS usually lets you submit anything from the beginning of the month.

I didn't bother mentioning the Kenko tubes because I assumed they would be common knowledge, and for 95% of people the cost is unjustifiable for the amount of use they'll get.

Hmm, I don't know if my chinese tubes will even get here before September. They say they ship in 3 business days and take 10-20 to arrive.....

True, but on the other hand, there's really no replacement for a true macro lens. Cheap diopters will cause CA because their cheap and extension tubes will do the same because no "regular" lenses are as corrected for aberrations as much as macro lenses are.

I think I'm going to look more seriously into the Canon 500D (diopter, not camera ;))

"Mah time ta shine!"

Well, hopefully. I'll try my best, I promise!

If I don't get my tubes by the end of the month I'll have to get creative again (see: my silly obvious star wars reference titled entry for Wet). My S3 IS can fill the frame with a penny, but it only does super duper macro at the widest zoom and to get that close to a penny the penny is basically black because there's 1mm or less between it and the lens. Ah ouis ouis, we must be ze creative, ouis? Methinks I'll go dig around the house for interesting things to poke with a camera (note to self, don't let the camera actually poke things *cough*I just smacked a small pile of coins with a camera lens*cough**cough**cough*)
