Forza Motorsport 3

I really hope they differenciate out the AWD systems so they're not all FWD biased. :/

I don't know about more roll, still looked pretty flat and level to me. But they showed that close-up of the Ford GT that showed the tires bending, so that's an improvement at least.

Going over jumps still seems pretty lifeless too. Like way over-damped or something.

Well - what I meant was that we now know that the physics allow wheels to lift off the ground, and that the cars can actually roll... which will hopefully make us run more realistic setups and lines. Not having to worry about wheel lift or suspension travel in Forza 2 means that you can run insane sway bars and ridiculous spring/damper configurations...

Removing that flaw could mean that we'll be running more true to life setups in fm3, and that would help a lot with the perceived realism of the game. Forza 2 physics actually feel much better if you stick to realistic tuning... but the resulting lap times are considerably slower.

They just need to copy LFS and make a fully simulated system. That's the simplest (maybe?) solution. I don't like boxes with parameters...

Nevertheless my hopes are up. It looks very promising overall, but then it's supposed to.

The biggest flaw in F2, is the crazy settings and downforce options. Could make tuning more accessible just by changing downforce to a few clicks up and down instead of 435.2 lbs to 957.8 lbs. It always seemed as though suspension and chassis upgrades have been vastly ignored in the franchise, all the cars seem to run fairly flat from the get go. Couple that with muscle cars that can run blistering times on 800 hp and stock tires and it just kills any form of advantage from being a good driver. Downforce, brakes, engine is nothing without proper tires. Slicks should be the first upgrade to any car. Unless there is weather of course :p

I cringe every time I load a room with a bunch of Renault Turbos.

Tire physics were a weak point in FM2 I think. Hopefully they will be improved. Also, I really hope they don't make fwd chassis' so dominant. The Mugen Integra was just stupid, filling up the entire leaderboard. And also yes, the 800hp muscle cars on stock tires was laughable.

^ Tire deformation is in, up to now only a physics element seen on a few hardcore sim racers.

Screenshots and the new Forzamotorsport.net launching at noon PST.

Don't worry, our physics are more hardcore than ever. ;)

---------------------

We wanted to show how accessible the game is because sims are scary. GAF doesn't think so but the world does.

The truth is FM3 is even MORE of a sim than FM2. One of the big physics improvements we've added is real-time tire deformation and wall flex which directly affect grip threshold. We'll be doing deep dives into all of FM3's new sim features in the coming weeks and months.

--------------------

Yes, our physics team worked very hard on tire flex modeling and it's one of the big new sim features for FM3.

Thanks for noticing! It's very subtle but it makes a big difference.

We have very much addressed this. I think you'll like what you see when we talk in more detail about it in the coming days.

--------------------

There will be plenty of gameplay footage this week.

If you're still questioning if these screenshots look like the actual game, then, I dunno what to tell ya. :)

--------------------

It feels awesome to go into a corner faced with understeer, only to kick the clutch to induce rear slippage and then modulate throttle to power-over for the turn. It's so subtle but the fact that you can ride that edge of traction all the way through while adjusting all the while puts Forza physics into a whole separate category. It's a gameplay mechanic I've really yet to experience in any other racing game on consoles.

I know LFS has it, iRacing too, right? I don't think rFactor does, but I could be wrong. I know GTR Evo/Race doesn't.

That's a pretty small list.

I think it looks brilliant, and, quite frankly, very close to GT5P. GT5 has the upper hand in car models while i think Forza has a slight advantage in the surroundings. Anyhow, it's a big improvement over Forza2. And the physics seems to have gotten a bump up as well, just the fact that the cars can roll is a pretty decent upgrade :)

I am certainly looking forward to it. And they've achieved all of this with about half the development time of Polyphony and GT5.. GT5 has just been postponed till 2010.. It is getting ridiculous really.. :b GT5 is one of very few games on the PS3 i could be interested in.

Horrible just horrible.

Cars still look like they are made out of plastic and just adding a cockpit view isn't enough. But the worst part was when the man from Turn 10 kept telling that this was the best racing game out there and that it had 400 cars!!! Wow!!

Dude! Can I remind you that Gran Tursimo 5 will have 600 + cars??
And nearly 80 of those cars are Skyline GT-R's with some special color or some random race special that is identical the every other random race special of that car.

Hopefully they'll fix that little problem of every car in the game capable of the exact same max cornering speeds regardless of mods (i.e. a Lotus Elise fully modified will not be able to corner any faster than an equally modded Skyline GT-R). Once I realized that, it ruined the entire game for me as my favorite thing to do is tweak on cars and do fastest lap times.

I'm not saying Forza is better, but GT series has some severe flaws that irritate the shit out of me. Though honestly after having my miata, I haven't hardly bothered with any racing games, they just don't hold any appeal to me.

EDIT: Sorry if I sound too harsh but I'm infuriated by the presence of Kojima - san presenting a Metal Gear Solid for the 360. Traitor... ??

Didn't they put Metal Gear games on the original Xbox?

If this gets out before GT5 then the GT developers should be forever shameful.

FM3 is coming out in October. Unless Polyphony has done some serious overtime work this past year, I don't think it'll happen.

SUVs are confirmed in, fucking disappointment if you ask me. Whoever's decision that was needs a good slap in the face. Better be just the Cayenne and that's it. Otherwise I can just see getting mauled off the track by some idiot in a fucking Trailblazer. Cue GT5 fans, we deserve it for this travesty, but at least we have rollovers confirmed in too :p

Well, there is a strong following of street racers who use trucks and SUVs, so I can see the argument. As long as there is a way to disallow their use in races, otherwise my online garage will consist of a bevy of 427 Suburbans.

I dunno. Might be fun to take a Range Rover round the Nurburgring...

I wonder if we'll be able to roll them with a Scandinavian flick at 100 MPH?

sweet graphics, looks promising, especially the interiors.

Two things to improve over Forza 2, more accessible tuning, the amount of modifications is great, but it was too complicated for me to bother changing the original settings and second better balance for mid-corner grip, it is just way to easy for a car to start sliding when applying just a bit more throttle, IMO. It takes much more effort for a car to start a skid in real life..
