GTA IV (PC)

The camera phone won't save pictures, it's really only for missions. Just have to press 'printscreen' and paste it into paint or photoshop.

Hmm, that sucks balls.

Wonder why they didn't have a 'printscreen to take screenshots, saved to a screenshot folder' functionality thing built in. Especially since it saves videos.

doesn't F10 usually do that? Need to check on that myself, but iirc older GTAs had F10/F12 as screen + paste into folder

my name is xGabkicksx , if anyone wants to play w/ me. I use fraps to take screenshots. I wish there were more co-op missions. Turf wars are fun when you have an intelligent team.

Anybody else having problems with the game crashing from adding too many songs to the User Music folder?

It didn't like 15000... or 10000... and 6000 crashes when changing to a new song quite often. 400 worked fine before, but that's hardly even a drop in the bucket. Can their mp3 player really be that horribly coded that it can't handle more than a few hundred songs?

I can't find anything from teh googles about what the maximum number of songs the game can handle. Methinks I'm going to end up putting on winamp and muting the car stereo, /sadface

I've no idea, but Independence FM also works with shortcuts to mp3 files as well as the files themselves.

Instead of having 2 copies of 15,000 songs on your hard drive, why not put only the shortcuts there and see if that works?

Yep, that's what I'm doing. I have one folder of music (just in case it needs something to read from in that dir other than shortcuts) and the rest are shortcuts to my CD Rips folder on another drive.

Turning off auto scan allows me to load up the game (finally), but it crashes when changing between songs quite often. I'm going to try making shortcuts for each album folder rather than a shortcut for each artist with subdirectories of albums.

If only it didn't take so bloody long to load...

Version 1.0.2.0
Today we released patch version 1.2 for Grand Theft Auto IV on the PC. A variety of fixes and enhancements were applied, including new sliders in the graphics menu for "Water Quality", "Shadow Quality", and "Reflection Resolution" to grant players more freedom to customize graphical settings as they see fit. Additionally, as a result of the patch we had to disable the default setting for direct input device support. To re-activate your supported gamepad simply enter the commandline, "-usedirectinput". The patch also addresses a variety of issues including, but not limited to, graphical optimization; bugs introduced with the release of patch 1; multiplayer and video editor fixes; and security updates. Please visit (INSERT LINK) for specific information about the changes and supported DirectInput devices. We want to thank the GTA community for your continued support as we continue to improve GTA IV PC so that it is the best experience possible.

^ How does it perform with the second patch? I read some negative feedback on GTAForums, but I suspect that that board is entirely filled up of whiny teenagers.

Played with the new patch today, holy fps batman!

Not only was i able to turn up some more stuff due to a better Vram management, the game runs smoother after i turned it up quite a bit, and i get 41 vs 35 fps on the benchmark :D

im using a crack, alltho i have bought the game but cant be bothered with putting the dvd in and out :p
Only bypasses and replaces the securom files so it doesnt matter if you patch the game

Ooh, can you share that up if you are sure it won't ruin the game?

I installed the patch. I haven't really done any FPS readings before or after, but it seems to run smoother. Available video memory has gone down, but the same graphics settings seem to use less memory so it works out...

The only thing I've noticed is there's more traffic on the roads now. Beforehand they were a bit barren and empty, now they're more populated.

This is a Good Thing.

^ Maybe your 'vehicle density' setting is now higher? I guess if it manages resources better that would mean it could put more cars in your city.

That's what I think has happened, yeah. Still not up to SA-motorway-weaving density but better.

There's a really neat/mean trick that GTA4 plays on you - take a helicopter up high enough and the game stops rendering individual cars and replaces them with a less resource-intensive 'lots of cars far away' vague thing. It looks really cool, because it then looks like there're millions of cars.

Then you descend closer and it turns out there's 5 on the entire main bridge.

*Spoiler Warning*
For those of you who reached the end of the story:

I'm going to take out Dimitri and let Kate die, any of you chose differently? I like Roman, and Kate wasn't really anything to hold on to later. I'd rather not have him die on his wedding day and i really want to blow Dimitri's head off, but that's just me. Money isn't a deciding factor, since what the hell can you spend it on, i have 600k and nothing to waste it on...
