How much Americans can take TG

As far as I know, Canada loves TG. I find all the pokes at America extremely amusing, but obviously the statements that are made by Jezza et. al are stereotypical and grossly exaggerated. Canada is technically of British origin, after all...

haha wtf, who are you. Bugatti's Aftershave with 1 post hahaha

He's a guy with one of the best names here, that's who

But the average American car is a sheepish, slow, bad-handling FWD old-fart-mobile, e.g. Taurus. Anything remotely exciting is rare.
:glare: As opposed to all the other average cars of other countries like some P.O.S. Vauxhall or Citroen or Fiat that's just fascinating, right?

Very good point!

The American cars do seem to be under more scrutiny when there's a lot of Euro-crap out there that's perfectly fit for bashing. To be fair, I don't think this past series has been that bad in that department. I agree that the earlier-mentioned dyno of the GT500 was B.S., because horsepower measurements are standard industry-wide, and the show made it out like Ford was trying to misrepresent their HP numbers.

edit: The Taurus isn't made here anymore, anyway. It's been replaced with the Fusion, which is actually pretty cool-looking.

I love watching TG, and laugh when they make jokes at american cars, but the newest American vs European Comparison made me mad because Clarkson made the worst match ups possible. I.E the Ram vs the Atom.... Thats just stupid. Or why he would use a Cadillac escalade instead of a good jeep.

Actually they're bringing it back...

As far as TG goes it's by far my favorite show. I love clarkson and the gang and pretty much anything I can find with them in it I watch. Sometimes I think I need to move to europe, whenever I see a post I disagree with I look at the posters location and more often then not they're from america. Then when I agree with the post they're from europe. *sigh*

As far as

The original Taurus (1985?) was somewahat radical and for many years was very competitive with Camry and accord. For a short time it even had a pulse with the SHO model (super high output) which used a hot Yamaha-sourced engine. Not bad for fwd.

Then at some point Ford stopped fighting and the Taurus got old as the Japanese competition continued its 4 year life cycle.

The aged Taurus was replaced directly by the Bored 500. The Bored ConFusion was more a replacement for the smaller sedans (tempo/ContBore) . Now with the damage done they renamed the 500 as the Bore-Us. Too late and the car still sucks.

Globalization means never having to say you're American

Globalization means never having to say you're American

Ford owns Lincoln, Mercury, Mazda, Volvo, Jaguar, and Land Rover. So are we counting all these badges as "American Crap?" The Mazda6 is "Made in the US" and the Volvo S40 shares mechanical components with the Mazda3 and the European Ford Focus. The Ford Fusion, the Lincoln MKZ and Mercury Milan is based upon the Mazda6, and the entry level Jaguar X-Type is based on the European Ford Mondeo. American market Camry's are 90% made in Kentucky, Australian Camry's in Australia, and the rest in Japan. In the current environment broad generalizations are generally wrong.

With the US dollar sinking against all major currencies I wouldn't be surprised if more European and Japanese auto manufactures moved some of their manufacturing to the US. This whole "American's make crap cars" or "American companies make crap cars" is just a little too simplistic to be of much value. Although I have to admit that when Jeremy spits it out "Fat Merichun Friendly Fire Rubbish" from behind his yellowish/brown teeth, it does make for controversial and entertaining television!

Americans can't make cars because the use V8's, and V8's suck as long as you don't need 300bhp+. All the things Jeremy says are true!
An excellent attempt at trolling sir! Like JosefCarlin mentions, generalizations are generally wrong. Personally I think Clarkson is full of shit, but it makes him entertaining to watch.

Translation: I live in a socialist country, I'm taxed to death, and can't afford to buy much less fuel a V8 and I'm jealous.

Keep telling yourself you don't need 300 hp.

So when is the American version of TG going to happen again?

I've spread the gospel of TG to the guys at work, and everyone who loves cars ends up loving TG. I think that most people are intelligent enough to not get too offended by the jabs at Americans on the show.

Who gives a flying fuck how much Americans can take of TG!!!! The show isn't for them! Seriously, I can't believe there is a thread like this, it is ridiculous and pointless. I don't understand why it hasn't been locked, when you consider some of the ones that have! I don't care about them. It makes no blooddy difference if an American likes it or not! I have more interest in how much a dog likes it. The world does not revolve around bloody Americans and this forum is getting really boring and predictable! Think of something else to talk about other than how everything relates to America.

If you don't like it, there's the door.

This website was created for the people the show "wasn't made for".

another example of European opinion being stuck in the 1970's. V8 engines are somewhat rare in American cars in 2008. if you wish I can break down the lineup of every brand and you'll see they are rare.

JosefCarlin, Ford sold Aston to Prodrive and sold Jaguar & Land Rover to Tata Motors

The "" Meant: "Yeah right..."

are you seriously that retarded?

if you hate Americans cars THAT much, goto an American car forum and do that. but you're on an automotive enthusiast/British car show fanatic site that consists of people from all around the world including Americans with American cars.

I hear that, all I've ever owned is American cars and they've all been fantastic.

Actually "Richards is involved in the consortium on purely a personal basis. Prodrive has no financial involvement in the deal."

As for the Premium Automotive Group badges I did mention, there is nothing official yet so I *think* Ford still owns Jaguar and Land Rover. At least both Wikipedia and Ford seem to think so...

Although given the weakness of the US dollar we may see an announcement out of Detroit, 'Mitchegan' very soon ...

Hang on, I like the site and the fact I can find Top Gear related info, but why does nearly every thread on here have to be about American related stuff, it is boring. I predict that at least 5 times over the next week someone will bang on about how Americans can't take this program or how there should be a great roadtrip across interstate highway 666 in middle America. It's predictable and sad. Can't people broaden their horizons or see that English/ British people actually don't want to see or hear more of America, because we get constant crap from the tv and movies that are exported (with the exception of House, thanks to Hugh Laurie).

The world does revolve around bloody America. Get used to it.:lol::lol::lol:

P.S.: American crap gets exported because people in england BUY IT. What you you know about Britain anyway? Looks like you bailed out and landed in Australia.
