Jalopnik has gone down the toilet ver. 3.0

Today's episode:

Climate change will ruin air travel.

Fortunately a commenter has done the work for me:

What you said:
Climate changes is getting so bad, researchers at Columbia University foresee 30 percent of flights being unable to take off by 2050.

What the article you linked to said:

The researchers predict that as early as the middle of the century, some 30% of flights departing during the most blistering parts of the day will not be able to take off at their maximum weight...

Do you see the difference? I?ve italicized the relevant parts to make it easier for you. To be clear, it only refers to flights during a certain part of the day and at maximum weight. Most flights do not actually depart at their maximum take-off weight as airlines only carry enough fuel to reach their destination with a bit of margin for safety. Plus, by 2050, we will have entirely new planes that are more efficient and have maximum take-off weights aligned to the prevailing temperatures of the day.

In short, this article is clickbait garbage.

Hm, weren't those the same people telling us that Anthropogenic Global Warming/Anthropogenic Climate Change/The Great Flying Spaghetti Monster was going to kill all the polar bears?

To be fair, those low numbers were from the 60s, and were never really taken seriously.

And yet the 7000 number was screamed from the rooftops by AGW/ACC evangelists as justifying immediate drastic action to save them "and everything else on the planet".

Looks like someone couldn't handle a few emails from Alfa owners...

oh the poor little snowflake.
How exactly couldn't they "handle" it? They posted the emails, and didn't reply with any level of insult or frustration.

Jalopnik's damned if they do, damned if they don't in your mind.

That we're aware of. Making a big post about some emails and painting the senders with a broad brush comes across as a little dramatic, IMO.

The guy doesn't know Yugo was made in Yugoslavia and not Russia/USSR.

That video was horrible, but not because of the Soviet national anthem. The average Jalopnik reader wouldn't even be able to point to the Balkans on a map, no less know the national anthem of the Yugoslavic SFR.

I actually agree with you, being a journalist especially an auto one means you going to get flack regardless

I thought the emails were pretty funny. "My Giulia has 1800 miles and has had ZERO issues! ZERO!"

Dramatic and petty. The writing style of the author is more suited to a message board or a blog. What got me was the way she picked on seemingly irrelevant details:

The next person, who used his university email address, was even better.

What difference does it make if they sent the email from their hotmail, yahoo, gmail account? What's the significance of pointing out it was a university email address?

I thought that was funny too especially since universities typically don't have special email domains for students vs faculty.

Students, faculty, accountants, administrative staff, IT specialists, campus security, the list goes on.

I wouldn't send an email like that, but I feel like if I did, I wouldn't do it from my company email account. It feels very unprofessional. Serious question, do you guys use university or professional email accounts as personal accounts? I've always had my own separate personal account.

Hey, if it's good enough for the Secretary of State [ducks and run]

Yeah, I mean even if her intention was to single out college students, we have students at our school (mostly Chinese) that drive around in cars that are approaching 6 figures in value. Hell, on campus today I saw: 2017 S63 Coupe, BMW i8, and Audi RS6, all driven by students. This is at UC Santa Cruz, go to Berkeley, UCLA, Stanford and its even more common and more ridiculous.

I wouldn't do it from a company email account either. I have two school email accounts (one is affiliated with the engineering department), I don't really use either as a personal account. That being said, there are many students and professors that treat their university email as a personal email account.

I don't use mine to send things to random websites or contact random people, I use my personal emails for that. However, I do list my professional email as the best way to reach me. I certainly can send an email to Jalopnik from it and ramble about how awesome Volvos are, but like you said - it would be very unprofessional. However, there is nothing that prohibits me from doing so.

But to get back to the original point, I never thought a journalist would actually focus on the kind of email account one of their readers used. More importantly, an editor would cut that shit out because it is irrelevant and simply a waste of space.

But I guess Jalopnik doesn't really mind wasting space (see: all their "articles" that summarize the contents of YouTube videos that I can watch myself).

See above. It's not forbidden.

If you defend FCA on Jalopnik, you get banned. So much for objective journalism... The FCA smear campaign is very much alive and well.
