You guys are funny. You really think Jay Leno is gonna go balls to the wall plastering his name/face on a video on a public road? Notice that Ghost Rider and the GIS videos the drivers never show their faces... it's kind of illegal.

Beyond that, in a car that low, you can't really drive that road much faster than that. Several of the local roadster club members have all attempted to drive it all. 1 lost an oil pan, another had to take it at 15 TOPS to make it anywhere.

I gotta ask, if your claim is true about how California is supposedly home to this huge car culture... why doesn't it have one of these type events?

http://www.bborr.com/ <--- I will probably attend this one as a spectator.

And why are all the tracks being closed, when there's more opening up by the year in Texas?

The point is, the video's nice and all, but it's really pointless. It's not up to the quality of more amateur-based productions, it's pretty sad to watch when you realize how many takes it took, and the road surfaces need help.

Encroachment by people that move next to a track and then complain about the noise. Not to mention, you yourself already said that the greenies seem to outnumber us car guys so thats not helping.

But we are getting a new track (well so far things are good, even the ecomentalists stopped fighting it) out next to Willow springs.

Oh and I believe Steve Levin already posted about the Bay area chapter of the SCCA having one of the largest autocross groups in the country.

Mmm, yes, one new track. You've lost Lyons, Riverside and LACR; Pomona is probably next. I wouldn't say a 4:1 ratio is a good thing.

F1 has run more recently in Dallas than they have in California.

Yep!

Sadly most of the cities those tracks sat in saw more income tax as a far better revenue generating scheme than the events held at the tracks. +1 I guess to your states lack of said income tax.

And since they built Fontana, we've built three tracks in the Dallas area alone, all of them either road circuits or road/oval convertible circuits. In Texas overall, we've got a net growth in tracks. Heck, Cooper Tire lets Houston SCCA use their testing facility for races.

Let's see, since 97, we've added:

GrandSport Speedway:

Harris Hill Road Course:

MotorSport Ranch (3.1 mile circuit):

Eagles Canyon:

MSR Houston:
http://www.msrhouston.com/msrhouston/trackmap.asp Track map is in Flash.

Racer's Ranch, which just opened, featuring a 4 mile long road course
. No track map yet, though.

And of course, there's Texas Motor Speedway, which opened at the same time as California Speedway, but which incorporated a roadcourse after construction:

Did I mention that people here deliberately buy trackside houses, so they can have better access? And that a track-side house is most desirable here? No encroachment issues going on here.

WHOA WAIT A SECOND, TEXAS DOESN'T HAVE INCOME TAX?

brb, moving.
Nope, no state/county/city/local/waterdistrict/whatever income taxes. Still have Federal income tax, though. Yet somehow we seem to have budget surplusses every year. Including this year, despite rebuilding after two hurricane hits in the last few years, taking in most of the population of Southern Lousiana, and aiding our other neighbors. Amazing how that works.

The last people to propose that we levy an income tax were run out of town on a rail in the following election.
