Last movie you saw?

Wrath of the Titans, how can they make a movie with so many action sequences and have me yawning at the end, waste of good actors imo, no depth, not even a hint of cheesiness to take the edge off, it tries to be serious but instead of quality acting the hero just becomes louder instead of better.

And when he kills Ares, lawl, he didnt gain any talent, he just ambushed him, real nice lesson to teach, "when in doubt, cheat"

4/10, bad acting overshadowed meh cgi, they couldve made it much grander and more impressive, but it wasnt...

The Raid: Redemption

Non stop freakin' action. Great effects on the gunshot blood-splatter and knife stabbings. And, very well done martial art fight scenes.

9/10

Edit: The only thing not so good was the subtitle translation. But, I didn't give a shit. You can pretty much make out what they were trying to say. :)

"The Intouchables" ("Intouchables" in French, "Ziemlich beste Freunde" in German).

Hilariously funny French movie, and even with a little car porn to make your ears stiff!

8/10, at least.

Blade Runner.

With all the Ridley Scott talk going on I felt compelled to watch it, particularly since I had not seen it before. The main thing that I was a bit disappointed about was not seeing more of Ford's character's skills, or how they hunt these android peoples. He's suppose to be the best blade runner ever but it doesn't seem like he really did anything that special. But I liked it none the less.

Classic Pixar, an entertaining story. Just don't watch it with very young kids. A couple scenes scared one in the theater to shrieks.

Damn it, I want to watch it... but it's not coming here FOR 2 MONTHS. WHY DOES IT HAVE TO BE DUBBED????

Here it is because of Language Law - it has to be either dubbed or subtitled, and dubbing is cheaper.

The big movies are subtitled in Latvian and Russian, but Pixar and DW animation movies are dubbed.

Subtitling generally is cheaper than dubbing. I think it's more about movies aimed at young kids being dubbed because of the target audience still learning to read.

Yeah, but when was the last time a Pixar movie was suitable for SMALL children?

You would have a point there but at least over here all of them are still marketed as kid's movies.

One of the better documentaries I've watched in a long time. Lions truly are magnificent creatures.

I watched Scorsese's Hugo Cabret last night. I liked the mostly true story of George Melies, one of the more-or-less unsung heroes of early film, very much (but then again, I am a sucker for "the movies celebrate themselves" plots). On the other hand, the (largely) digital set design, while impressive, did not hold up when compared to the latest output by style fanatics Wes Anderson and Tim Burton (see previous page).
While this might not come as a surprise, that Anderson handled the "book-savvy teenage girl" character better than Scorsese, who did not give the girl enough character of her own to serve as more than a sidekick to Hugo, did surprise me, as character development and portrayal normally is what Scorsese is as master of.
Additionally, Scorsese massively played down the impact of WW I on the character's backstories when compared to their historical basis, which hurt the film more than it did good. This is especially odd as the completely useless inclusion of a concentration camp liberator/war criminal tangent was one of the many things that were wrong with Scorsese's last film "Shutter Island".

Alien, while my memories of Prometheus are somewhat fresh. A timeless classic. Shows that they could have done a much better job with Prometheus in the character and screenplay department.

I guess I'll watch the other movies in the series soon.

National Theater Live's Frankenstein, this time with Benedict Cumberbatch as Victor Frankenstein and Jonny Lee Miller as the monster. After seeing the previous version with the roles reversed, I was watching out for how each actor let the monster inform his performance of Victor and vice-versa, and was not disappointed. Both versions were intensely harrowing and troubling in the same way as the source material.

Finally got around to watching Marvel's The Avengers. I missed Thor and Captain America, so I was trying to see those first before watching Avengers, but I only got to see Thor. Not very patriotic I know. Thor was pretty good, I found it fun, if a bit lacking in the plot department. The Avengers I wasn't sure about, but all the reviews were so glowing it wasn't a surprise to me that I enjoyed it as much as I did. I was worried that it would feel a bit cluttered with all the different stars and main characters, but they really did a great job giving each character enough screen time and purpose. Damn good summer action flick. Hope to see more Avengers films in the future.
