Well, the normal colored sand is much lighter, so it blows away, leaving this darker colored sand behind. Also this sand retains water better, keeping it on the ground. Its kinda hard to explain, but through a combination of forces, it makes this formation. Its really quite neat. There are other formations like this all over the beach, I just had the best opportunity with this one. Also, it was perfectly, and I mean perfectly level, so it made taking the shot a bit easier. Here is a better angle to show you what I am talking about:

yeah I don't remember posting that before.

I took it out in in the farmlands of Ione, Oregon. it's a very small city/town with a populaion of probably about 100

How did you get such a shot? Do you work there?

The complexity of the wires and the sun's glare on the tracks really make it a sweet shot.
