Not long ago my father-in-law bought another house, a spacious abode in North Braddock, PA (a neighborhood east of Pittsburgh).
He asked my wife (his daughter) if we wanted to live to there and we accepted. (uh dur) We moved in last weekend and over the past few days I was able to take some photos around the exterior. No interior shots quite yet, I'm hoping to start documenting the status of the interior within the next few weeks.
A little history of the house. It was built between 1890 and 1893 for Charles M. Schwab, superintendent of the Edgar Thomson Works in Braddock, PA. Schwab moved out in 1903 and the house became home to superintendents of the mill until the the mid 1950s. The house was then bought by the General Braddock School District (which was later absolved into the Woodland Hills School District) and the house was used to teach home-ec and shop until 1983. The house was then sold to Dr Bruce Dixon who wanted to save the house and restore it. Sadly the contractor he used died a few years into the work, and the work stopped. Then two years ago Dr. Dixon died with no heirs and the future of the house came into question. My father-in-law wanted to buy the house and save it from being razed or it becoming something else and the interior and being ruined. Well, after two years of waiting the bid my father-in-law put in was accepted and we finish moving in tomorrow.
The estate hasn't been fully settled yet so interior shots will sparse until then, but for now enjoy these shots! Tell me what you think.
