Need For Speed: Shift

I hope the PC demo is coming out around then also. :(

it won't! developers just HATE people that use their PC for gaming :(
at least that's what i think... or maybe it's just that PC games are 'cheaper' or something. damn them...

i hope ppl wil buy it and support the company if this game turns out to be good ;)

What kind of multiplayer does this game have? Trying to decide if I should buy it for PC (better graphics) or PS3 (can play with friends in person).

The more and more I see of this game the more disappointed I am. I just saw a TV Commercial with the words "Actual Gameplay Footage" superimposed over... well..I can only call it something.

What I saw when these words were displayed looked like Burnout with an in cockpit view.

It was atrocious.

What the hell IS that?!?

It's marketing. The goal is to attract lots of people who otherwise wouldn't be interested in road racing, this is a big shift for NFS, pun intended. This studio needs to hit one out of the park and that means pushing the boundaries beyond hardcore fans.

I have a younger cousin and a few of his friends all keeping an eye on Forza 3 because they saw the E3 trailer with the stunt driving and the burnouts. They may not buy the game but they will certainly at the least try out the demo. They couldn't give a shit about trail braking and they most definitely don't know any of the tracks. But they have a love for cars, certainly they would be willing to drop a few Jacksons to fulfill that car porn lust.

The nit-picky car stuff comes as you delve deeper into car culture.

8 man multiplayer. All the usual stuff, and it's matchmaking. It's got one interesting mode called "Duel" where matchmaking finds drivers of similar skill. It pairs you with one other driver. If you win, you move up the ladder and get paired with another. If you lose, you go back to the bottom. The higher you get the faster the cars are.

yeah I understand the need to play to a large audience... the only thing is, is that I think a few of us were tricked into believing this game was going to be a pretty good racer..not with Forza realism console sim wise but something that was still at least adjacent to reality.

That commercial I just saw made me lose all hope. It's like..

ZOMG THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS LOLZ!!! BUY BUY BUY!!

Yeah, I'm definetly waiting for the demo on this one just on NFS' reputation.

Shift is quite ok, the dudes don't catch up. That has alway been the biggest shite about nfs...
Tuning is a bit generic and I dislike to get different rims when upgrading stuff... You can't go back to the original ones... Well, the bodykits do look cool for the first time ever (at least on my 135i) but the selection of cars is really mediocre, if you have to stick to one of the 4 tiers. Veyron round the Ring was pretty cool but I crashed all the time... Dunno, faster cars are pretty hard to handle with the normal controller...

Gametrailers just gave Shift a 9.1 which frankly is a great score for Any game not just a NFS title

GT is number 1 in my book when it comes to reviews so i trust them.

Definately going to check ths out.

Wow. It's not like I had high hopes of this game, but seriously - wow! This game is horrible in every single aspect, apart from the graphics.
Need for Speed: Shift doesn't take the cake in any way - in fact, it proves that without doubt the cake is as much a lie as it ever was.

Wikipedia said:
In the new franchising model for the series adopted by EA, Shift takes its place aiming at hardcore gamers and focusing on simulation racing and realistic drifting rather than the arcade racing of previous titles in the series. It focuses less on street racing and more on simulating the driver experience and is being described as a racing game built by racers for racers. [4]
Either there is some serious miscommunication within EA, or this was intended to be bullshit from day one.

First of all, a racing game built by racers for racers? The game gives out points for your "aggressive driving" (drafting, for instance, is an "aggressive action") and your "precision driving" (completing a clean sector gives you "precision points"). How the fuck does this have anything to do with racing?
One of the goals the game set for me in a race was to spin four competitors off the track. Yeah, that's racing for you.

The physics and the feel of the car are so horrible, it leaves you wondering whether the programmers specifically programmed understeer or oversteer into each and every corner. Braking is like deploying a parachute - either you're really slowing down a lot (too much), or your not really slowing down at all.

Apart from all the obvious faults of this game, it struck me that ALL of the real-life circuits included in the game are wrong. The height map in Road America is wrong, the N?rburgring suddenly has corners that I didn't even know existed and at Spa-Francorchamps all the corners are banked like a fucking oval. What's worst of all is that at Spa-Francorchamps, they've used the old bus-stop chicane.

If you buy this game, make sure you take a shower after playing it - it will leave you smelling of the piss that EA has poured over you in bucketloads with this poor excuse for a game.

Thanks for that. I needed a no-BS review.

Top Gear Top Tip - AVOID?

Seriously? Apart from the gimmicky points thing, I think it feels more like a simulation than an arcade, definitelly better than GRID and wtf are you talking about Nordschleife having weird corners? When was the last time you drove on the track?

If the game didn't have the stars, points, etc, it'd be a good racing sim, but as it is, it falls somewhere in between.

The Nordschleife confused me too, the thing they did was

a) make it look funky with tents and stands and fires everywhere (stands in the Adenauer Forst?)
b) make the track narrower than it is (esp. doettinger hoehe)

I quite like that game, though it is a PITA to control with keyboard, the cars are all over the place...

Graphics are stunning!

The Aggressive - Precision points are utter bullshit, Drafting is not aggressive, and when I want to "master" corners I am way slower than when I just kick the rear end out a bit..

I would call SHIFT a nice combination of NFS Porn Street and GRID. I like it.

I also say the first patch, as it is an EA game, will be here by the weekend. And the fact that it has no LAN Mode is utter shite, even if they want to add it in a patch - earth to EA, please release complete games, kthx

Sorry, I meant on the consoles, does it have real life multiplayer? i.e. can you play with friends in person? Or is it only online?

You lost all credibility right there. The new chicane is complete crap. The old course is 1,000,000,000 times more awesome.

Xbox.com says "players: 1" so I assume that means no local multiplayer splitscreen.
