New cars with tiny rear brake lights

On the Charger and Porsche, at least, the brake lights are separate from the taillights and rather noticeable imo since the total lit red area increases.

On the charger, doesn't the side lights just get brighter? I don't think any more area lights up.

The Charger's brake lights are separate from the racetrack lights. Note the increased red area in the second picture:

Same with the Durango. It's the Dart where the side lights brighten without increasing red area, though the Dart benefits from a higher CHMSL than the Charger:

I think that generally small lights are brighter to make up for it.

Mostly LED, perhaps?
