I'm away for months and when I fly back across the pond, I'm greeted with the pathetic Cubs and no football talk in this forum... shame on you all. :p

In all seriousness, the trip was a nice change of pace and there's a big weight off my shoulders. Thanks to everyone for the kind words and support.

Let's start off the football talk with a bang:

I won't be able to be online much right now, but I hope there's at least some new discussion when I check in. :p

White Sox are done. Go Bears?

(not a Bears fan).

Go Buccaneers!

The NFC North is really shaping up to be an exciting shootout. Hating Brett Favre is perfectly acceptable and even encouraged, but please do not blaspheme again... JC shall smite thee. :p

Rodgers is pretty damn good, but you're going down in week 1. :D

Should be a good year in the NFC North and I'm having trouble picking a favorite out of Minnesota, Green Bay, and Chicago, I'm also not convinced that Detroit won't steal a couple games from the three. I'm very curious to see how Brandon Pettigrew does with the Lions, he was one of my favorite players while at OSU.

It's looking like a good year here in Nashville. I'm expecting the playoffs, maybe an AFC Championship appearance, and with any luck, a Super Bowl.

The Colts shall regain the AFC south title, beat the Pats in the AFC championship game, then destroy the ATL dirty birds in the Superbowl.

Yes they will, except replace the destroy Atlanta part with beat Arizona in a thriller! I am going to buy tickets to the Indy-Ari game some time this week. I can not wait!

Now for my answers

Prediction time for the season and week 1

1) Pick the playoff teams for the AFC and NFC.

AFC West: San Diego
AFC North: Pittsburgh
AFC South: Indianapolis
AFC East: New England
AFC Wild Cards: Baltimore, Houston

NFC West: Arizona
NFC North: Green Bay
NFC South: Atlanta (the best of a bad bunch I think)
NFC East: Philadelphia
NFC Wild Cards: NY Giants, Chicago

2) Who plays in the Super Bowl and who wins? NY Giants over Pittsburgh

3) Who's the first coach to get sacked? Minnesota coach Brad Childress

4) Will Brett Farve make it through the season? If I think his coach is going to be fired, what do you think? Hell no.

5) Who will be the last team to win their 1st game? Detroit, but it will be before Thanksgiving

6) Who will be the last team to lose their 1st game? Green Bay, that's a scary good offense

Winners in bold, but I will note where I would take the points.

Thursday, 8:30pm EDT
Tennessee at Pittsburgh (-5)

Sunday, 1pm EDT
Miami at Atlanta (-4)
Kansas City at Baltimore (-11)- would take the points here.
Philadelphia (-1) at Carolina
Denver at Cincinnati (-4)
Minnesota (-4) at Cleveland
NY Jets at Houston (-4.5)
Jacksonville at Indianapolis (-7)
Detroit at New Orleans (-13)
Dallas (-5.5) at Tampa

Sunday, 4:15pm EDT
San Francisco at Arizona (-6.5)
Washington at NY Giants (-6.5)
St Louis at Seattle (-8)

Sunday, 8:30pm EDT
Chicago at Green Bay (-3.5)

Monday, 7pm EDT
Buffalo at New England (-11)

Monday, 10:15pm EDT
San Diego (-9.5) at Oakland

AFC South: Tennessee

AFC Wild Cards: Indianapolis, Denver

NFC East: New York
NFC Wild Cards: Dallas, Chicago

3) Who's the first coach to get sacked? whoever Al Davis gets angry with

4) Will Brett Farve make it through the season? Yes, but not without costing the Vikings the playoffs.

5) Who will be the last team to win their 1st game? Cleveland

6) Who will be the last team to lose their 1st game? New England

I'm not very confident with my NFC Super Bowl pick, and the west in both conferences are terrible to pick for year after year.

I would also like to add I think Tennessee and New England will have a good show in the AFC Championship game, with Dallas and New Orleans having a slightly better one in the NFC Championship game.

EDIT: And I tend not to do weekly picks, as I usually can't get anything right.

I think when it comes to weekly picks, the only given is a Lions loss.

That being said, I'll avoid the weekly picks bit and just answer the first part:

1) Pick the playoff teams for the AFC and NFC.

AFC West: San Diego
AFC North: Pittsburgh
AFC South: Indianapolis
AFC East: Miami
AFC Wild Cards: Tennessee, New England

NFC West: Arizona
NFC North: Chicago
NFC South: Atlanta
NFC East: NY Giants
NFC Wild Cards: Green Bay, Dallas

2) Who plays in the Super Bowl and who wins? I'll say Pittsburgh over New York

3) Who's the first coach to get sacked? Marvin Lewis

4) Will Brett Favre make it through the season? For the sake of all that is holy and good, no.

5) Who will be the last team to win their 1st game? Detroit, of course

6) Who will be the last team to lose their 1st game? San Diego

First, some one who is smarter than me keep track of these things. Lets see how we all do!

The 2009 season is underway, and from the look of the first two offensive drives, this game will be a defensive struggle. One big play either way could very well end up deciding the game.

That game deserved to go to OT, though I was hoping the titans would win it (I know what I picked for the game but it's not like I put money it!). I'm just wondering if Polomulu (or however it's spelled) is seriously injured because he never returned to the game.
