NFS: Shift 2 Unleashed

Any hopes i had that this would be a good game has quickly been squashed by those vids, it looks shit.

I disagree. I think it shows rather well how the game behaves when you use a keyboard, which you shouldn't, this being a simulation.

I must have missed something, when was it said the guy driving was using a keyboard?

Also it looks a lot like Shift 1 to me, which was not by any means a simulation (pushing cars out the road and getting points for it ftw?)
I've said it once and I'll say it again, guys at EA are too concerned about sales figures to make a proper simulator. It's a niche market and they're going for mainstream. This is a game, and it was always meant to be

Still looks like it will be more fun than GT5. Waaay more good tracks.

this looks just like shift 1. all twitchy and slidey and spaztic. That R8 going through that mild right hander in the last vid makes it look like they forgot to simulate downforce completely. That car should have had tons of downforce grip at that speed

"Amazing driving out there, man! Amazing!"

To his credit, he's using a cheap wheel which doesn't have force feedback on the PC, in his lap.

Still, these videos make me a little sad. And sleepy. But maybe that's just the pizza.

And, it seems the Huajbahfbvhsf sounds in the trailer were dubbed, because that sounds the same as the old Zonda. And why the hell do we still have those ridiculous race-car transmission sounds in road cars? Seriously, if I hear that sound in a stock MX5 I'm gonna lose my mind.

1:38 Corner Mastered... except you went all over the grass... but good one!

To be honest this is how I drove around the ring in Shift 1... I dunno the ring alone and the thing was so forgiving so what the heck :D

Also what's wrong with the driver's thumbs? o_O

That guy is a complete novice, he has no idea how to drive. When I played Shift, it was completely different.

The Murcielago vid looks pretty good. Wish we could see some lower tier stock cars, they were the most fun in Shift 1.

All these latest videos make the game look like shit (and not just visually). Those bug splatters will get VERY annoying, and yeah, I also hate that transmission whine in road cars.

i hardly ever upgrade to race trannys in games where it is an option because i cant stand that dog cut gear whine.

ugh, so obnoxious

What... the... fuck... this is making me really depressed. This looks like utter crap.

And why does the Huaajdjafbhja have the race transmission sound, but the race modified Porsche does not?

The leaves on the track being blown around and the marbles being kicked up into the wheel wells is kinda cool though. The mirror and windshield wiper on the Porsche wiggling around is way overdone though.

This looks good though:

That driver has no fucking clue how to drive. He's braking all the time, even when full throttle. Try the game for yourself before juding.

I think I know what looks realistic, thanks.

Shift 1 looked fucking amazing at first but it sucked moldy nuts once you got into the nitty gritty. Now that I have the in-game experience from Shift 1, it's easy to see what things have and have not been improved. I'm just disappointed is all. I bought into the marketing talk of making things much more real and just generally better.

Switching from bash to praise here.

Take a look at this, visible tire deformation (and an R500).

And a quote:
"A couple questions though: how realistic is tire wear? Do different pressures and compounds impact tire life."

A good question Rook. I went to SMS' physics guru Doug Arnao to get the answer here. He said:

Tire wear (along with heat) is modeled and is pretty realistic. Safe to say you'll know you've abused your tyres. For pressures, they affect the tyre spring rate, and the across the tread heating, so ultimately will affect life of the tire.

BTW the SMS crew were quite impressed when we created the above screen shot as it captures the real time 3D tire deformation modeling in game. Pretty cool!...

SUPER kudos to SMS for putting in tire wear. But with 45 minute endurance races I'm not sure it'll play a part really.

Full Q and A article here.

Also, this EPIC picture of a Mercedes (I guess DTM car?)... want.

There's also a couple responses with marketing BS in it regarding physics. The court is in recess on that one as far as I'm concerned. I will try it before I absolutely rip it. To me, in the preview videos, it looks the same.

I'm so bipolar about this game. Wait, no, I mean, bi-winning.

The physics still looks like Shift 1 (not very realistic). But I thought the graphics looks good, they are making this game primarily for console, so they have to work with the console's graphical limitations. PolyphonyDigital took almost 6 years to make GT5, and the graphics was still kinda dissapointing. I really doubt they can make better graphics with just 2 years.

I want to like this game so much since Shift felt like it had great potential, but I am trying to keep my expectations low.
*fingers crossed*

I hope tyre wear affects the AI as much as it affects you... How much I hated in F1 2010 the AI going like it had fresh rubber when it was close to the pitting window and me struggling to keep the car on the road on totally worn out softs.

Stupid physics in full effect here...

Looks ridiculous. Look at the way the car is swaying around.
