I'm a bit surprised that there's no snow in NYC........I thought Ontario and neighboring provinces/states are snowing right now.
We had snow and there is still some in outlying areas. Snow in NYC does not last long. With all the foot traffic and cars it gets mashed away real quick.
its the heat island effect. urban areas with lots of people, asphalt, and energy consumption build up massive amounts of heat which are released over time, keeping large urban areas warmer, and warming them up quicker than emptier areas. (for instance, it was 39 F when i left my home in center city philadelphia this morning, but it was 32 F a mere 7 miles out of the city) NYC, i would presume, is like other major metro areas in the NE USA in that the temperatures usually hover around the freezing mark, and so though snow can come, and does, it melts rather rapidly after the initial falling.
