Is it bad I recognize that from CoD4 and STALKER lol [and yes I do know it's Chernobyl]

Awesome. Really would like to visit it myself one day.

Prypjat, actually

Anywho, I don't think I changed my desktop in over half a year now.

Yeah, a weird part of me is terribly fascinated with the Chernobyl incident. You can imagine the holy mother of googling I did after playing Stalker...

Where is it? It looks like a ghost town so I am going to guess Chernobyl but I don't really know enough about that place to be able to spot it from a picture. Well outside of a picture of the blown up reactor.

I'm not exactly sure why it's always refered to as the Chernobyl (Ukraine) incident, as the reactor itself, and the towns in Call of Duty 4 and STALKER replicate Prypjat (Ukraine).

I have some GPS coordinates you might want to look up on Google Earth, they have a pretty detailed satellite image of the area.

Reactor 3: 51?23'22.49"N 30? 5'59.10"E
The Fairgrounds: 51?24'28.36"N 30? 3'19.68"E
Junkyard: 51?23'57.37"N 30? 3'2.19"E
Interesting fact about the junkyard is that it's still prohibited to actually go inside it. Apparently all the scrapmetal in the junkyard maintains radiation levels, which are too high to be healthy for you. ;)

While some may claim the Chernobyl/Prypjat area is deserted, some people refused to leave and actually still live there. Despite this fact though, the very very low population (you'll be able to count them on one hand) has caused nature to 'take back' Prypjat and apparently is full of wildlife (wolves), exotic flowers etc.

This site has some nice pictures of the described objects: http://www.angelfire.com/planet/nuclearflower/pripyat/pripyat.html
This describes nature in and around Prypjat nicely: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Forest
