Random Thoughts... [Automotive Edition]

It's a volvo brick, of course it's worth it

Just spotted this on the car I had my eyes on

I'll still give a call but I'll make sure to ask if the car's been crashed. Anyway, if I ever actually decide to go see/test drive a car I'll have an experienced body worker have a look at it(and this guy's great).

Also, notice the different panel gap.

Let's try posting this in the right thread this time....

I had a minor electronics issue with my car that was going to be a pain to troubleshoot - a red KEY light on the dashboard was lit up, and my keyless entry system was acting a bit wonky. There are buttons on the exterior of the car that only work with the key in the general vicinity, but these weren't working at all. The regular remote lock/unlock buttons were unreliable, and the trunk could only be opened from the control inside the car.

After some research, it's a common issue with the car if it's driven in the winter (mine was). The rear antenna can get corroded with road salt and debris. So, at some point I was going to have to have the bumper off and take a look. Easier said than done with the ground effects kit that is the "rotary accent package."

Long story short, I went through an automated car wash in preparation for a car show yesterday (I'm a lazy bastard). Halfway there I notice the light is gone. All buttons work perfectly now :???:

By blinker fixes itself if you smack it. Was your car wired by VW? :p

FYI, in Eastern Europe most used cars have been crashed and mended at some point of their lives. It's inevitable.

I would check WHEN it was crashed as if it was a long time ago then problems from it would already be showing up, like due to the fact that I haven't seen any issues with anything in the front end of my car after the crash that was like 5 years ago, I am assuming that it was fixed correctly.

Except the wiper fluid hose but I doubt that is related... Do they make metal wiper fluid hoses?

Saw a really cheap Sapporo for sale in nettiauto. Sat for a couple of years but has issues - now a dude and the car surfaced in my thread at the Finnish Mitsu forum, asking for advice with the car. He's considering breaking it up, and I instantly asked for parts. :p

Since the particular car in question is French, it may not have been all that well put together in the first place...

Ah, I got that mixed up with his other post about OBD2 scanners and a Renault engine.

The rear door gaps don't bother me so much as the weird looking gap on the side of the bootlid.....doorgaps can simply be due to the pics taken from different angels, but that bootlid just looks odd.

I seem to remember a clip from TG where Hammond claimed it was the Dolomite/Triumph Sprint?

This video rather accurately portrays what my car is good at. Being smacked around without taking any real not cosmetic damage.

I want to compile all the Beetle bits in to one video and re-upload it called "Kat drives to Boston" :p
