Random Thoughts... [Automotive Edition]

The Volvo V50/S40 Ford Focus C-Max has the thickest, most annoying A-pillar in the world. Just thought I might point that out.

FTFY

- Games are great for learning track layouts and cornering (see : people who drive the 'Ring in a game then do it inreal life)

This part really does work :-D

Oh BTW, I drove a rental Toyota Yaris Sedan the other to go to Seattle. It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be at first. Compared to the Hyundai Accent I got a few months ago, I would even say it was a good car.

- The engine (I believe it is a 1.5 VVTi) is reasonably powerful, even on the highway, even the slushbox wasn't too bad.
- It didn't seem to handle too bad, but that part was kind of hard to test on the highway.
- The stereo was nice and loud :-D
- The engine used its petrol very efficiently, even with some thrashing from time to time.

Now for the bad parts:
- The steering is the most uncomfortable piece of hard plastic I had the displeasure to hold in my hands, it did hurt after only a few minutes.
- The interior is mostly hard plastic and I don't like the gauges in the middle, they maybe great for cost-cutting at the factory but they are so far away from your eyesight...
- It caught every possible crosswind imaginable... It was so bad at one point that I thought one of the tire had a puncture!

So the car had faults but all in all it wasn't too bad for a rental, I wouldn't buy one though.

Oh and... My god, driving on North American highways is boring... Next time, if I'm not in too big of a hurry, I'll try to do my homework and find a less boring alternative (if such a thing exists :-D).

That's why you get a car with a big engine and comfy suspension and do it real fast. :)

Can you even do that any more? There are quite a lot of speed cameras signs all over Vancouver and I spotted a Police car parking on the side of the highway, presumably preparing to catch those crazy speed-breakers!

Well there aren't any speed cameras South of the boarder.

Somebody wrecked their Caddy in Suomenlinna, the island fort in Helsinki.

Wonder how that managed to wander over there.

Real shame, because that was one of the last RWD Caddies (before the return of RWD with the CTS/STS).

Nah, can't you see it's probably difficult to take the turn when the car's front is crumpled like that?

No, hang on...

Maybe they tried to join the water, thinking it was a boat, but slightly miscalculated?

I could joke on that all day long :-D

But it sucks for the owner anyway :-/

Drunk driver, by the way. And IIRC the island is a 20 km/h zone, but he must've done a lot more than that. If not for the tree, he would've ended up in the drink.

Fixed speed cameras are illegal in BC.

The police still put up radar every once and a while though. The signs are just left over from the late 90s when the fixed camera's were abolished.

Meh. It is still just a B-Body. Not necessarily a bad car, but I wouldn't be too worked out over it.

- Video games let you try things you might not risk in real life*
- Games are great for learning track layouts and cornering
- Real life has no reset button

these are very true. Games may help with the driving bit, but racing is something else all together

I lol'd that a finn would actually buy that and drive it quick enough to crash it
