Random Thoughts... [Automotive Edition]

You should find yourself an MCW Metrocab, then you can tell everyone it's a second generation Range Rover and they're just remembering it wrong.

Just as ugly as I remember.

They actually can be imported here, just not without having to go through a certification process that would be cost prohibitive for most people.

The TXII was actually sold in the US for a while, you can find them for sale periodically. Theres one on eBay right now. https://www.ebay.com/itm/2004-London-taxi-Txii/274012825535. And theres one coming up at a Mecum auction in January in Florida https://www.mecum.com/lots/FL0120-395655/2003-london-taxi/.

But clearly this is the answer for @EyeMWing https://losangeles.craigslist.org/lac/cto/d/downey-1975-austin-london-taxi/7005149823.html

EDIT: Better still https://car-from-uk.com/sale.php?id=54691&country=us

Yeah 25 years for anything that wasn't sold here (or in Canada) originally.

There are some hoops you need to jump through for Canadian imports that are under 25 years old. Some vehicles won't be allowed in even from Canada. The Nissan Micra is an example of a vehicle sold in Canada that can't be imported here.

There also is the NHTSA Exemption list that lets you import newer vehicles provided they're covered under a ruling to do so, but most if not all of those are just foreign market variants of models we already got. Current list revision is here https://www.nhtsa.gov/sites/nhtsa.dot.gov/files/documents/elig120115.pdf

My next project purchase will be some stupid 90s EUDM thing nobody in the right mind would bring to the US. I promise.

The first years of the FWD Alfa Romeo Spider and GTV siblings are now 25 years old. Just saying.

They were sold here. No need to buy from Europe.

A Lada? They been around for 50 years or so :p

Plenty of Ladas in the US. Need to pick something that doesn’t have a cult following..... like those awful Volvos I keep positing.

... I do need a van in my life.

And for that price I could buy 3, shove the best one in a container and disassemble the rest into parts in the same shipment.
