Random Thoughts (Political Edition)

Oh the clots that let several hundred mink out of a mink farm to decimate the wildlife around Southern Englandshire - NB Mink are vicious buggers.

Those people like rats so much they whine about the new fancy rat traps we are getting, which uses a detector and crushes the rats in the sewers, eliminating the need for poison to be put out. Silly people. Rats in sewers are vermin, vermin needs to be exterminated.

Anyway,

Teachers are branding thousands of children racist or homophobic following playground squabbles.

More than 20,000 pupils aged 11 or younger were last year put on record for so-called hate crimes such as using the word ?gaylord?.

Some of them are even from nursery schools where children are no older than three.

Schools are forced to report the language to education authorities, which keep a register of incidents.

Although the Department for Education recently pledged to cut unnecessary red tape and bureaucracy, it has given no guidance on such ?offences?.

In total, 34,000 nursery, primary and secondary pupils were effectively classed as bigots because of anti-bullying rules.

The school can keep the pupil?s name and ?crime? on file.

The record can be passed from primaries to secondaries or when a pupil moves between schools.

And if schools are asked for a pupil reference by a future employer or a university, the record could be used as the basis for it, meaning the pettiest of incidents has the potential to blight a child for life.

Data obtained under the Freedom of Information Act shows how two primary school pupils ? one a Christian and another a Muslim ? were reported for calling each other ?gaylord? and bursting into giggles when asked what the word meant.
That is outrageous, registering peoples opinions in a database is abhorrent in itself, the government doing it on children is worse!

Makes almost as much sense as making a crime a hate crime too.

The Pirate Party recently won seats in Berlin and there was an article in the local rag here in Switzerland today about the Swiss version of the party.

Have a look at the pictures of "Schweizer Piraten-Chef Simonet" (Swiss Pirate Party boss) and "Anh?nger der Piratenpartei Berlin feiern ihren Einzug in den Landtag" (followers of the the Pirate Party in Berlin) in the online version of the article.

This is said within the first few minutes of this.
Dick Cheney:

"I was honored to be compared to Darth Vader"

This is worth a listen to see just how delusional he is, though. He regurgitates all of the old lies in defense of going to war in Iraq.

You clearly haven't read the required amount of Calvin & Hobbes! :shakefist:

Chaney may be delusional and driven by weird forces but you have to say it - bloody clever bugger. Come on he invented himself as a new branch of government, brilliant.

Remember his personal safe? Smart move and I bet he did not write s**t on computers either.

Not good on gun safety though

He looks more like a tiger than a rat. Tigers are not vermin! :p
I don't know what that was but it flew over my head very fast.

Just shows how delusional he was/is.

 Well he tried anyway. Congress basically told him, "Huh, so you're not a part of the executive branch? Guess you don't get any of this money then." He changed his tune quick. Pacemakers and Italian shotguns don't pay for themselves, you know.

Just shows how delusional he was/is.
He certainly comes off as delusional or at least very, very out of touch. But even Bill Clinton praises him as a political operative.

Americans need a Chaney as president but in a good way.

Oh we have just discovered that we do not have a free press - who knew and the cat is out of the bag now. ...

http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2011/sep/20/phone-hacking-met-guardian-evidence

Abstract:
At the Guardian. ...

The officers (Met Police, ed) demanded evidence ? specifically notebooks and other information held by Guardian journalist Amelia Hill, one of the authors of the Milly Dowler story, in an effort to discover its source.
Their claim was that that article, and others about Operation Weeting, the police investigation into phone hacking, had been one of a number of "gratuitous" leaks from the enquiry team.
Indeed, so gratuitous were the leaks that the police demand for evidence indicated they believed there may have been a breach under the Official Secrets Act.
The demand was so unusual that it was not just the Guardian that was scrambling to comprehend the law. The police demand for evidence, a production order under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act (Pace), came with the allegation that there were breaches of the obscure sections 4 and 5 of the Official Secrets Act.

and later in the article. ...

The right to preserve the anonymity of sources is enshrined in law, and there is a public interest defence against a (normal) Pace order. But there is no public interest defence to breaches of the Official Secrets Act. Lawyers have speculated that the almost unprecedented use of section 5 of the Official Secrets Act was to bolster the Met's argument for seizing the reporter's notebooks and records.

So the message is clear, if you see wrong doing do not be a whistle blower in the banana republic of Ukania. ...

Also remember the strange deaths of whistle blowers too. ...

Anyone seen the republic's bananas?

http://news.yahoo.com/ga-executes-davis-supporters-claim-injustice-031409578.html

Georgia executed Troy Davis on Wednesday night for the murder of an off-duty police officer, a crime he denied committing right to the end as supporters around the world mourned and declared that an innocent man was put to death.

As he lay strapped to a gurney in the death chamber, the 42-year-old told relatives of Mark MacPhail that he was not responsible for his 1989 slaying. "I did not have a gun," he insisted.

"All I can ask ... is that you look deeper into this case so that you really can finally see the truth," he said.

He asked his friends and family to "continue to fight this fight." Of prison officials he said, "may God have mercy on your souls. May God bless your souls."

Davis was declared dead at 11:08 p.m. The lethal injection began about 15 minutes earlier, after the Supreme Court rejected an 11th-hour request for a stay.

"Justice has been served for Officer Mark MacPhail and his family," state Attorney General Sam Olens said in a statement.

Justice? The whole thing reeks as a travesty of truth and rationality.

Indeed. Today may be the closest we've ever got to knowingly executing an innocent. If it turns up that he really wasn't guilty, then there are a lot of murderers born today.
