Random Thoughts....

Hey man, sorry to hear about your grandmother gaasc. It's quite great that she has lived such a long life. Since she has been such a great influence, keep the spirit alive by continuing those things she taught you.

Also, funerals aren't exactly very easy things to attend. Most people I know would rather go to a memorial (I end up at these more than funerals, but those aren't easy also. I do prefer them).

So here's some random stuff which may be of interest to some. But feel free to disregard if its not your thing.

Its the end of month and i've been doing my usual maths and looking at the views, figures and totals regarding my Doctor Who website and my YouTube channel. determining how popular its been, whats been popular and where to go next. The Month of August has been incredibly good and has been the best month for both the website and the YT channel. Starting with the website. Last month the site had around 3.500 views. This month it has had nearly 10,000 views. That has been a massive spike and also provided me with a new personal record for views in a single day (which currently stands at 581). However i'm well aware that compared to the views of some sites. this is just peanuts (i don't even want to think of the amount of views a site like Final Gear gets in a day). However i have been incredibly proud of my work on the site and even more proud when i see it popping up on twitter and other various websites.
The return of Doctor Who has been responsible for the incredibly high number of views as well as the continuing series of Torchwood. In some cases my YT channel was the first to carry the trailers for new episodes of Torchwood. resulting it appearing on websites such as SFX magazine (one of the UK's biggest Sci-Fi magazines) and other various Doctor Who and sci-fi based websites. The YouTube Channel had a massive spike as well, reaching around 40,000 views for the month of August. This is incredibly good when compared to July's total of 15,500 views. This means that both the website and the channel have more than doubled their view counts.
As for whats next. i'm looking at the possibility of moving the site to a more permanent address (possibly build a new one) but with the intention of putting some ads on it as well. The ads however are a bit of a thorny issue since i'm not just going to throw pop-ups and other various crap on there. so i'm mostly looking for a way for the site to be easily accessible and read, while still having some ads on there. Also i'm having to be incredibly careful when it comes to copyright. The BBC have been incredibly good at giving me free reign. The only content i post on the YT channel is things like trailers, interviews and other content. I don't add things like episodes or add links on my website to download episodes. Torchwood has been a whole different ballgame completely. In some cases, videos i've gained from the BBC have been shut down because of the show being joint produced by Starz. On numerous occasions i've posted something from the BBC only for it to get pulled by Starz. so its finding a delicate balance.

anyway i'd like to thank all those for the help and support over the last few months. Special thanks especially go to Brydie76, Clegko, McLightning95, ZeDestructor, BlaRo, MWF, ashspet and of course Mr WordPress himself our illustrious ViperBond. The website has grown far beyond my intitial expectations (it was only originally developed with 3 people in mind) and taken on a life of its own. i'll be looking at college courses as well soon with the intention of seeing what can be done to add some qualifications and IT skills behind what i've learned.

Are you also going to write cynical, sarcastic and frankly dark songs to hide behind because your true gentle nature will not allow it, thus making Paul the better songwriter?

My thoughts are with her, gaasc. :comfort:

 oh sweetie, so sorry for your loss

Thoughts are with you

Sorry to hear. Dont worry too much about keeping a stiff upper lip and all that, you are allowed to let your emotions out and it can feel a lot better after.

Sorry to hear your news gaasc. Doesn't hurt to let the feelings out, whatever they are.

Though people pass throughout your life, it is the memories that will always be with you.

far better to let it all out than keep it all bottled up. all the best gaasc.

My condolences, gaasc. Like everyone else has said, you'll feel better if you let it all out.

All the best gaasc - maybe you can find comfort in the fact that at over 100 years of age, she had a long (and hopefully fulfilled) life...

That's amazing to be 100 years old.

I'm sorry for your loss. :/

Gaasc
My condolences, I am sorry for your loss.

Now, be the very best person you can be; so that lady would be so proud of you, and her efforts to help bring you up properly have met with reward for her up there.

That sums up nicely.
Hang in there and don?t despair.

gaasc, I'm very to sorry to hear that. My thoughts are with you and your family.

My deepest condolences. If there's anything we can do, please let us know.

So sorry to hear it, gaasc. my condolences to you and your family. You may not have that "penny drop" moment, at least I didn't. Just don't feel guilty either way, you've clearly shown what she meant to you.

nothing more to add.
i am happy to be part of a community as caring as this and will try to contribute as good as i can if you need anything.
all the best gaasc

:comfort: I'm so sorry for your loss. By all means, take the time to let all your emotions out.

Gassc, I think everyone has covered it, but here is more. Sorry for your loss.

And gaasc, I'm very sorry for your loss. Grieve in whatever way feels right for you. :comfort:

I am sorry for your loss. May she rest in peace.

Wow, I never expected suck a massive reply, I would like to thank you all for making me feel that bit special. it also comes to show how close the FG family really is. Really, thanks guys.

This has been a long day, and showed how much people cared for granny. Family, friends, neighbours, my high school friends. Everyone made an appearance, it was almost surreal to see all of that.

Concerning me, when I went to bid her farewell and I saw her there she seemed unbelievably peaceful. All of a sudden concerns of how to act and if I would break down suddenly went away.

I think I'll recover

I am so sorry to hear about your grandmother's passing, gaasc. She sounded like quite a lady. :comfort:

I'm sorry you didn't get to say to say goodbye to her. Unfortunately, we don't always have the opportunities to say our goodbyes when our loved ones are alive. I know I didn't get to say goodbye to my memere or my uncle before they passed. But you obviously loved her and she you. In situations like that, words are often unnecessary.

Now for your next assignment - when you're ready, that is. Make as big a difference in someone's life as your grandmother did in yours. It can be your sister, cousins, you name it. Pass on what you learned from her. That way, she's never really gone.

Sorry for your loss gaasc. You know you can count on your fellow FG'ers to be there for you as much as we can from the other side of the internet.

Funerals are the worst to have to go to, but remember everyone else there will be having the exact same feelings you are having to some degree. Don't worry about what you'll say or what your feelings will do to you when you're there, people will understand. The thing about funerals for someone who was very close to you is, you will be showing all the strength you need to just by being there for your family. :comfort:

nitpicking time! ;D

why does the film industry have such a difficult time making prop rocks (or fake rocks) look real?
Movies that have budgets over 150 million rarely do it right.

That's more of a pet peeve than a nitpick. :p

You try making rocks. Those bastards are hard at any scale. Making big set piece rocks in a limited amount of time with lots of other stuff that needs building is even harder. I can't say I've ever seen foam rocks with uber realistic paint though.

All of a sudden concerns of how to act and if I would break down suddenly went away.

You will. Hurtful feeling are like sand on a beach, if you scoop out some sand, you leave a big hole. But the tides will eventually smooth out the jagged edges, fill in the sand that was taken.

You will definitely recover and it will be positive, I guarantee it. As I said earlier (quoting myself because I didn't want to retype/rehash it all):

It's extremely difficult to do this, I know, but focus on all the positives and happy moments you've had with her. Be strong, don't concern yourself about rubber faces, people will not dislike it if you talk about her positively. In fact they may appreciate positive thoughts and memories of her. If you ever need to let out, we are all here for you, PLEASE don't hesitate to PM me, I would be greatly happy to listen/read and help you along if I can.

Don't worry about that 'penny drop' moment. Trust me when I say that it will come when it comes and it's the greatest sense of relief and positive movement ever. But don't concern yourself about it, ride the wave and let it come when it comes. We will be here to provide you a virtual shoulder for that moment.

I'm sorry to hear your loss gaasc, but she certainly sounds like quite a person.

In similar news, my grandmother is deteriorating rapidly. My father just got off the phone to her, she keeps drifting into speaking Latvian without realising it. Just before my great grandmother passed away, she started speaking Lithuanian too, so the Alzheimer's has really taken its toll these past few years, sadly.

It's one of those awful diseases. It's so sad to see people reduced to the result of Alzheimer's. It happened to my great grandmother and my grandfather previously, and it's truly upsetting. I was quite young when my great grandmother passed away, but my grandad passed away only 4 years ago.

The way that disease brought down a once great man was just incredibly sad to see. He had no control over it. I think it's one of the worst things that can happen, the slow destruction of the mind to a point where a person is completely changed. It's not something I would wish on anyone.

having done my civil service in a nursing home specialised on dementia, i have to agree. even over a rather short amount of time, the effect it can have on people is terrible. i witnessed it quite a few times and was lucky enough not to get too close to any of the affected. after the first month or so, you learn to keep your distance just to save yourself from suffering.
luckily my grandparents didn't show any signs of this before they went, so i'm hoping my parents and myself will 'go peacefully' without any nasty business once time
in regard to this i am a firm follower of terry pratchett's approach: once it starts taking over, just end it and save everyone from having to suffer through it all.

all the best to you and your family

This thread has too much sad :( Losing family sucks, and I can relate to everyone who's going through that right now. I worry every day about my great-grandma, especially since we've had so many scares that we were going to lose her. I was lucky enough to know almost all of my great-grandparents, and she's the last one still alive today, and she and my great-grandpa were also responsible for helping take care of me when I was younger, so when she goes...well, I try not to think about it.

In other news, though, today's my last day of work for ten days! Woot!:beer::w00t::dance:
