Saturday, 10th August 2013 (Day 11 of 12)
As usual, in the early morning I was up and ready for the day while everybody else was still horizontal. According to rumors some of them had been busy during the night with reducing the fire hazard to the Ringmeet-tent by valorously destroying some of the stored alcohol.

So I did what I should have be doing before in the same situations during the Roadtrip: Just go for a local morning drive.

After this very atmospheric sunrise drive I went back to the campsite to take in breakfast with the others, but the urge to finally visit the famous Touristefahrten Ring-entrance itself was very big now, and so it didn't took long until I went there. - The track was already open, but at this hour only reserved to clubs and dignities and not yet to the common Touristenfahrer peasantry:

Didn't took long until the on-site parking flooded itself with all sorts of car porn.

This Porsche sadly went faster strapped to the back of that truck as it went pootling around the track. Meh.

Hello!

At 1300 finally the track went open. Until that moment I hadn't really planned to take my own banger around the ring, I actually was advising myself against it during the Roadtrip days. But standing there next to the barriers looking at the cars going for their laps, for sure I changed my mindset: Let's do this. Why not. - But since I have never been on the N?rburgring, or on any track for that matter, (hell, I don't even play PC racing games), I secured myself a passenger seat in DanRom's Ford Focus to have a first look at what to expect after all. - Oy, it was a lot faster and a much tougher experience than I tought it would be, I tell you!

DanRom's overtaking trophy for that lap, taken whilst we rattled swiftly trough the Karussel:

At the end of that lap I was quite intimidated by the track to be honest. - To be somewhat on the safe side for my first lap with my own car I immediatly asked the clearly experienced DanRom to accompany me for track-goes-where guidance. And so he did. - For sure my novice driving was pretty slow and tunnel-vision-y, but hey at least I didn't crash into someone else, or into the ever present armco which repair costs are defined lenght-wise by the current gold standard parameter, or so I heard.
A note inbetween: For sure I had my dashcam running during the duration of this lap, I mean me going for the first time around the Ring that had to be archived. But the sheer stupidity of the so called rules regarding a supposed camera ban everbody took for granted led itself to a very shitty rattly video because the cam wasn't secured properly after DanRom placed it on the windscreen as soon as we passed the entry barriers. I don't blame him, I blame the nonsense rules. And securing the cam properly myself at that moment already on the track would have only resulted in the quite possible scenario of me taking over the dubious N?rburgring 7-seconds-wonder fame. - To that effect after I had a look at the disappointing video, I simply went to ask the officials working directly at the gates about the actual facts regarding camera banning orders. - The answer I got made much more sense: In-car cameras allowed, outside ones not: If your dashcam takes sudden air time inside your car that's your problem, but you don't want the badly secured GoPro of the car infront suddenly going trough your windscreen, for example.- Satisfied with this official statement, later during my second lap I had my cam permanently mounted and all the time running behind the windscreen. No problem.
This thing probably went as fast as it looked

A temporarly track closure forced this massive XJ to go out the wrong way.

And then: As soon as the track reopened again it was time for me to go for a second lap. This time instead of asking around for a co-pilot I decided I would just drive up to the entrance and pick up randomly one of the many Finalgearians stationed there: BlaRo was the voluntary victim.
Very noticable how insecure I was during the first half of this lap about where the hell the track went after every damn corner. And as you can clearly see I was quite busy with my mirrors and my righthandside indicators early on. But later on during the second half, after fixating myself on the Rent-Swift and that awesome yellow carbon thingy, suddenly it went a lot better! To quote:
"I have no idea what I'm doing" - "You're having fun tough, right?" - "Yeah". - And it really is fun. Should have be doing more laps in hindsight, but then and there two were quite enough. Phew. - Awesome stuff. Consider me hooked. - The weekend at the 14th and 15th of the coming September is already reserved for me going to the N?rburgring again to gain more experience.
Towards the evening most of us went to Br?nnchen. Matt2000 went somewhere else.

Of all the mahoosive car porn and awesome cars I saw during this weekend, this one was to be my favourite:

Towards the end of this day I drifted away from the Ringmeet for a bit: Whilst everybody else went to the Alte Scheune in Arweiler for supper I went back to the Victoria Station campsite to rifle trough my accumulated work mails instead, and then I went for another scenic drive. The numerous small connection roads were really lovely:

By the time I actually went to Arweiler at about 2200 everybody was already in the process of leaving the Restaurant, so I joined them for the drive back to Altenahr. A description of what was happening around this following snapshot can be seen

More to come, stay tuned.
