Just returned from my 2nd trip to Iceland in May, this time doing a complete tour of the Island Ring Road. Here was my approximate route:

jealous. wanna do that too some day.

I have been to Iceland end of last year and it was stunning even though It was only two days and I did not actually leave Reykjav?k. And I was still lucky enough to see the northern lights - which is pretty much a lottery, but with a better lightshow when you win ;)

General advice: If you are flying North America - Europe, do the Stop-over thing with iceland air. Take a day or two like I did - but don?t stay in the Grand H?tel Reykjav?k - the Hilton is much better. And remember to pack swim-gear to check out one of the thermal pools, but don?t go to the blue lagoon. I was at Laugardalslaug, which was awesome in winter.

Oh wait, this is the photography forum ...

Awesome stuff, I'll be doing some 10 days or something at the end of August and I had a similar route in mind. Do you still know where you stopped over for the nights? That way I could probably do a little estimation how much of a trip to do every day, that kind of thing... Thanks!

Hopefully, I'll be able to do my fair share of filling this thread in September :)

Such beautiful imagery. I gotta go there some day. If anything, to hear people talk like Vikings.

Sure I can send you the list later... And 10 days works much better, like I said I had to rush things towards the end in 7.

Fantastic shots! They make me miss Iceland even more. It seems we've stood on the same ground as well. It's interesting to see how different the places look when they're white instead of green.

There's a fantastic hiking path upstream of Sk?gafoss. The scenery kept getting better and better.

That cascade is the same one?? That's awesome. Also that pic with the rainbow

PICTURE DUMP INCOMING!

Edit: most incredible moments were for me:
1) walking over the little hill in front of the smaller glacier lagoon and seeing it for the first time. my jaw literally dropped, i was speechless for at least two minutes...
2) standing underneath the northern lights and seeing those for the first time. uncontrollable giggling ensued :D
