Attending a prep course for my board exam coming up. Drove my little Accord for about 9 hours down from KC (30mpg @ 65mph woot!) and since I know there are a few guys from Dallas here any advice on general driving and local LEOs?

Also any recommendations in terms of attractions/good restaurants/car shows/etc.? According to google maps, looks like there's a Ferrari dealer I might have to visit.

Now I must go find nearest laundromat and wal-mart...:p

PM Spectre. He pretty much runs Dallas from Volcano20!

With anyone who runs a large metropolis from a named lair, that's a given! ;)

Agreed, but maybee the OP was the one person in the world who has never seen a Bond movie :p

Boardwalk Ferrari is cool, it on North Dallas Tollway and Comercial Dr. I belive.
Boardwalk Audi and Porsche is on the other side of that same intersction.
The Lambo store has moved to down town dallas but, its pretty neat place.

What part of town are you staying in?

Looking at Google Maps, the hotel I'm at is within the confines of Garland. Right off the side of LBJ Highway and I see a White Rock Lake just a few miles to the southwest.

Cool. I was Google Mapping ferrari and lambo and will probably visit on one of my days off. I've never been to an exotic dealer, I'm sure they are used to kids/youngsters just going to ogle and take pics so shouldn't be a problem I hope?

Saw Casino Royale but not sure what Volcano20 is....hopefully Spectre will have mercy. Isn't he also Asian?

Ask the hotel about the laundry, many Radissons have guest laundry facilities.

Your nearest Walmart is just off Northwest Highway between 75 and Centerville. Kind of small, though - I'd go to the one off of Abrams and 75.

As for restaurants, we have too many good ones to list out here. Some are in the most unlikely places. Tell us what you want to eat and we can probably come up with more than a few options.

Lambo store didn't move Downtown, it actually moved to Richardson, just north of 635/75 between Spring Valley and Greenville.

Mercy? Hah!

The biggest car meet in the South/Southwest happens every Monday here in Dallas. See www.ricekiller.com for details on that.

Every Thursday night is Bike Night in Dallas, when everyone dusts off their motorcycles and goes to one of several different meets. Don't know if you are into bikes, but that's worth going to.

Last Saturday of every month, the RUF Auto Center has an open-house/meet/get-together. Yes, it's that RUF, of Porsche tuning fame. They opened up a branch office here in Texas.

You just missed the Dallas Cars And Coffee event; that happens the first Saturday of every month.

Just check out the Ricekiller.com Texas event calendar for more details on most of those. There's an enormous car culture here in Dallas, so there's often some event going on. See this for some other events: http://www.dallasnews.com/autos/car_clubs.html

Thanks for all the info! Not sure how much time off I will get (random tuesdays and wednesdays off....bah) but will definitely try to do something cool.

Hotel's in-house laundry service is veryh convenient but expensive as hell. Will just drive to local laundromat. And went to two Wal Marts via GPS and both were closed or relocated, so finally found one off of 75.

As far as restaurants, I'm definitely down for anything asian (good chinese buffet, Thai, Vietnamese, chinese dim sum, etc.) Back home we have a really nice Italian place, so if theres anything that you personally enjoy in Dallas please let me know. I had friends who was in NYC for 7 weeks for their board prep course and one of the roommates doens't eat anything but Ramen and very select Indian food (paneer tikka masala) and some american/italian food (pasta, fries, maybe burger sometimes). So they missed out on alot of stuff. Oh yea, any place that serve up good noddle/soup type dishes?

Oh, my, do we have a surplus of those. PM me your number and I can run down the list for you.

Lambo is right off 75 north of 635 not in downtown bah I was to late
Bently/Lotus has a dealer here also.

This weekend is the Rangers playoff game,Cowboys, Mavs preseason, statefair, just missed the Texas/OU game

Uptown and West End Dallas have plenty to offer.

One street in uptown/arts district has architecture from IM Pei, Rem Koolhaas, Renzo Piano, SOM, HKS, and Norman Foster. Down the road, in Fort Worth, you have Louis Khan, Tadao Ando, and Phillip Johnson. Also in the area are buildings by Frank Lloyd Wright and Richard Meier. I'm not sure you are interested in architecture, but we have some good stuff :)

Sorry, for the OT post.

But, I just took a look at that ricekiller.com site, and their message and overall attitude (atleast from reading the front page) seems pretty legit. Are they just in texas? or do they have lots of meets everywhere (ie, Canada too :p)

Have to do the State Fair while it is still on. Sample the Texas goodness. I too can suggest some food, but all my family lives closer into town/has expensive taste so may not as much help for you. Though since asian is your thing I would highly recommend Teppo on Grenville in Dallas. Really good sushi and yakatori.
