Yes. I really like them.
That's 500 bucks I'd rather put towards the restoration...
Car is sheduled for rust removal on the rocker panels on monday, summer rims (16" style 46) have also been purchased.
Even if you're saying a beater, I'm expecting this to be 100,1 % mint E36 Compact in few months time!
I still don't really get the implied hate of the Compact If anything, it's a natural derivative of the platform, albeit done in a budget-conscious way. And a hatchback is ever so handy.
I thought it was just a beater?
It is, but i want it to last. if i neglect this, the car will rot away and fail mot. And i don't want that.
And you can't see the nose from behind the wheel. The E36 Compact is a model of restraint in comparison to the blobby E46 one.
There's also some cheap but hopefully effective upgrades coming to the car.
- thicker front arb
- ford mondeo rear arb links to replace the standard arb links (they have a ball joint on both ends as opposed to the standard bmw ones with rubber on one end)
- new rear arb links
- polyurethane arb bushings for front and rear
- vented front discs and calipers from an e46 320i
- single mass flywheel
- new clutch
- undamaged steering wheel
- front strutbrace (made by a friend, laser cut and precision welded)
A bit later, but before ringmeet:
- new shocks on all 4 corners
- redone headliner and a pillar covers
- instrument cluster upgrade to include fuel consumption meter
- bordcomputer install
This should make the car very capable. I should turbo it to get some more power out of the engine. 140hp is a bit low
