Tech Fails

I currently sitting in a computer lab at college, for a while I thought my USB memory stick which contains my coursework was broken. Thankfully it wasn't broken, just in the USB port of the wrong computer.

I have had a similar issue with my laptop due to the fact the power plug slot and the usb slot are similarly shaped so when I plug in the usb cord without looking sometimes I miss and plug it in the wrong place.

While interviewing a web developer guy - I have built screens (he meant GUI).
Had a friend over - your wifi will not all my computer to connect to the internet - checks wifi switch, it is off.
Colleague buys dvds since they are large capacity, tries to write using a cd writer.
In college, friend says he will bring word and excel for me, I had keys, i just needed the set up. At home takes out a floppy, he had copied the shortcuts from his desktop.
Guy went from having one computer - two monitor set up to two separate systems with individual keyboards and monitor, calls Friday evening saying control c from one and control v to another does not work.

Nah, just for the people who write their drivers.
F**kin A, why does a printer driver set need to be 350MB is size. Remember the cheap lasers that started coming out in the 90s where all the processing was done on the PC. The printer itself was fairly dumb, most would run on windows only? Even those damn things had drivers that fit on 2 x 1.44MB discs.

Complain to company IT Head Honcho that shitty cheap-ass work laptop runs in geological time.

He advises I have 1GB of RAM running Vista and that I need more RAM. He will get me two lots of 2GB to sort out the problem.

I tell very IT savvy friend/FG member who checks and advises this model will only see 2GB. Advise IT guy.

IT guy then says 2GB should be enough. Said member .

New 1GB memory arrives. It's DDR not DDR2. Above member now :roflmao:

E-mail IT guy last week. Nothing.

E-mail IT guy today. Still nothing.

Meanwhile I reckon I lose an hour every day just because this thing is such a POS.

Similar thing happened with the ASUS netboooks we use for college. Administrator at our campus submits the proposal for 64-bit OS and 4gb RAM but, we only got them with 2gb and 32-bit OS. These netbooks are far too slow for what we use them for. Half the time in class is spent waiting for the netbooks to finish.

For my Family I have installed "Log me in" it saves me the trouble most of the time to having to drive over to fix a simple issue, granted they have to have it on and connected to the internet. But most of the time its fine.

One I had recently my dad has a setup in his office where he has a tape recorder and then he has his Secretary transcribe it. The Playback machine was dieing or what not, so finally switched to a digital recorder and everything. After a weird issue with his USB ports failing(8 years old lol) I installed an SD card into the recorder in case it died so he could still get the recordings off the SD card.

Well The program I had made him learn to get the recordings onto the network automatically opened to the internal memory and not the SD card, this program has a simple two boxes with arrows in the middle, (import/export)

Well he calls me and was getting pissed as he was hitting the arrows and his latest recordings were not going on the network, I asked him if he remembered that he now needed to click a simple dropbox and select "SD Card" he says "I forgot", told him its right above the box like a millimeter away on the screen in the program. He goes to the top of the program "file,tools..ect"

About 3 min of this, I was like let me call you back(On my phone at the mall) used the Log me in App, went onto his computer with in seconds selected SD card and when I called him back it was a "Ok its good I got it"

lol sigh..

Computer was shut off- Its not turning on
Walk over push power button, walk out.

While in firefox - Tell mom to Google "xxxxx"
She types google.com into the address bar

TV input was switched to the DVD Player, Mom comes to me saying tv was not working.
Tell her to try the inputs, calls me saying it still not working, I go their switch the inputs and walk away.

Long ago finally they learned, the Logitech TV remote we have has a "Help Button" so lets say the TV did not go on it will walk them though making sure things are on, constantly I had to do this my self as they did not want to click "help" on a remote lol

I dont hear sound - Speakers are off

I need you to reinstall skype
Me: What? Why it should be installed
Her: its not
I look it over, somehow the icon was deleted off the desktop, its W7 so it has that search thing but I have shown her 3 times now lol

One of my family friends who I fix computers for on the side

Emails and internet are not working
ME: Have you replaced that old flaky router?
Him : No
Me: you need to replace it
Him : it works sometimes
Me : so then sometimes you'll get internet and emails

This is not really a tech fail but a fail non the less

I worked at bestbuy for a bit in the computer section.

First Customer at 9am asks tons of questions, help them and answer every question in detail for about 15 min, 2 people are waiting patiently
She then asks me about a video game if I could help her and find it, I said "Sorry that is not my department, my expertise are in computers and this section" She blows up in my face saying that I did not help her and how horrible I am. I guess she wanted a personal escort to the game section and for me to get her someone. The people who were waiting had a shocked looked and the next one up, said "she was a total bitch eh" We both loled

Amateurs.

I'll admit that while I know that I can just type into the search box I still have a bookmark on my toolbar for Google, and if I'm in a hurry for a new tab and Google I'll probably use that instead. I like to vary my search technique. :D

We have software at work that allows us to remotely connect to any machine on the network without previously having to install a client, very handy especially for the regional offices.

I snap when someone goes to google.com. Espcially on my computer because the toolbar looks like this

https://pic.armedcats.net/a/ar/archie411/2011/06/21/Fail-1.jpg

And the fact that Opera says "Search the Web for blah blah"

Its mostly my father and sister who does this and no matter how many times i tell them, they still go to google.com

Yup. Archie is one.

I'm the other one.

Conversation over the radio at work:

Person 1: "A customer is looking at a memory card, what's the difference between a MB and a GB?"
Person 2 (The Electronics salesperson): "A MB is the size of a camera's picture, the GB is the memory."
Person 3 (70 year old manager): "Actually that's not correct, but good try."

Wow. This is why we need better training for employees. The electronics salesperson doesn't know what a megabyte and gigabyte are.

I used to perform in-home technical support. One day, I got a service call to this lady's house. She was absolutely insistent that the reason her internet had ceased working was because her printer had just run out of ink. I kid you not.

30 exasperated minutes later, I finally understood what had occurred: When her printer ran out of ink, she turned off the printer...by shutting off power to the power strip into which her router was also plugged. When the printer ran out of ink and she killed the power...she turned off the internet too.
