The 25 worst rappers of all time.

What's so special about someone yelling the n-word and repeating the same thing over and over again? I was never into rap, never will.

Surely, now, you can't just attack some artform on the basis of its worst representatives. Rap takes skill, even more so when it's done freestyle. There's something to be said about the interplay among the rhyme, beat and rhythm in real rap, the kind of stuff that really is poetry in motion. There's even social commentary and real passion in rap; listen to any of Tupac's greatest hits albums to here the musings of a man on the front lines of America's race divide, who can't drive the ghosts out of his head, except through his microphone.

That said, I really like Nelly. His rap is really infused with a sense of casual style that is hard to find elsewhere. His frequent collaborator Murphy Lee even namedrops Voltron and Thundercats in his contributions; how can't you love music that loves the 80s?

All musical styles can be made to appear simplistic and stupid if you take their defining characteristics out of context.

Examples...

Rap - Lyrics about, bitches, hoes, guns and drugs etc
Heavy Metal - Distortion with lots of yelling.
Techno/Dance - Repetitive beats.
Country -Twangy guitars and complaining.
Disco - Tight pants.
Classical - Overdressed.

There is brilliant music to be found in all styles.
