Airline Pilot was produced by BOAC in 1970. The training of airline pilot Stephen Radcliffe is painstakingly thorough and this film intercuts the story of the young man's first flight as third officer on a journey from London, via Bahrain, to Bombay, with earlier scenes of his training. It describes the role of the College of Air Training, the aptitude tests, the theories and practical knowledge taught, the first solo flight, the hours in the simulator and the controlled flights in a real airliner, all leading up to his first international flight as second officer. Stephen was the youngest pilot ever to join BOAC. The filming actually started during Steve's simulator training on the VC10 and followed him to Shannon where he did his base training. There are some lovely air to air shots of the VC10 which has to be one of the most beautiful aircraft ever built.

It runs for 42 minutes and is a bit grainy, but shows how BOAC pilots were trained back in 1970.
(The timing clock is a bit annoying, dunno if it can be switched off.)

It's awesome but confusing: going by the fashions and the paraphernalia, it's a recent picture, despite the fact it's a B-17G flying overhead.

I just signed up for the "Farewell to the MD80 MegaDO". This event is to celebrate the good old MD80's last flight for SK (Scandinavian Airlines) The MD80 and the DC9 before it used to be the backbone of SK's fleet, now mostly replaced with B737s and A320s. I have very fond memories of these planes, as we used to go to our apartment in Spain for most of the school holidays when I grew up back in the 90s/early 2000s. SK was usually the most reasonable priced, as you only paid 1/2 fare for kids (untill 16) I remember we usually flew FBU-CPH-ALC then ALC-CPH-FBU back again, from October 1998 onwards FBU was closed and replaced by OSL. Being able to go on a trip to bid this old icon farewell will be a great experience I'm sure. Here's the program:

1PM The official Farewell to the MD80 Party flight to Copenhagen (normally a 1 hour flight) flight goes north of the arctic circle with a low pass at BOO airport before we head to Copenhagen. Flight time 3 1/2 hours

Woman Singing Whitney Houston Songs Forces Emergency Landing of American Airlines Flight

An American Airlines flight was forced to make an emergency landing when a female passenger refused to stop singing Whitney Houston songs.

AA Flight No. 4 was en route from Los Angles to New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport on May 9 when, according to the airline, the flight was diverted to Kansas City because of a "very unruly passenger."

A video of the woman being escorted off the plane is available on the website of local television station KCTV. It shows the woman belting out "I Will Always Love You" as at least two uniformed officers accompany her off the plane.

Airport spokesman Joe McBride told the station, "The woman was being disruptive and was removed from the plane for interfering with the flight crew." He said the airline did not reaccommodate the woman and she was forced to make other arrangements to get to her final destination.

The airport did not respond to ABC News' request for comment.

American Airlines told ABC News, "A federal Air Marshall on the flight restrained, cuffed and detained the passenger. The captain declared an emergency and diverted to Kansas City. Police met the flight and took the woman into custody. The plane was refueled and continued to JFK - landing with less than an hour delay."
