The car cleaning thread

Whats the best way to get chewing gum out of carpet?

Ice and a dull knife or spoon. Freeze the gum with the ice the scrape as much as possible out with the tool. Repeat until you can't get anymore.

Then use some alcohol (90% rubbing alcohol is best, but it is getting harder to find) to dissolve what is left and use a vacuum cleaner to suck out what is left. Again, repeat as needed.

Then use some carpet cleaner or soap to get rid of any stains.

I recently purchased a new Daily Driver. I picked up this 2002 BMW E39!!! Its a Jet Black 530i 5-Speed with Sport Package. Picked the car up for $3160. The car has 180,000 Miles and has HAMMERED BLACK PAINT.

The car needed alot of detailing work. Being a Jet Black BMW, it was full of scratches, oxidation, marring, and other stains that were reducing the gloss of the paintwork.

I decided to use the car to test out the New Rupes LHR21ES and LHR15ES Dual Action Polishers using the new Chemical guys Black Optics Microfiber Pad teamed with the V-Line of polishes.

Since I work 5 days a week 9-5, i decided to polish the car section by section for 3-5 hours each night. Ended up taking me about 4-5 days working little by little. The results were VERY good and the new Rupes Polishers work great at cutting and finishing Jet Black Paintwork. Now my craigslist daily driver has a mirror finish!!

I also used the car to film 2 video using the Rupes Polishers to show how i corrected the paintwork. I didnt get many before shit, but the video and the 50/50 should do it justice.

Handz- How long does that tire gel last, and does it run off/sling when exposed to rain?

Can I pay you like 150 dollars to do that to my cars?

No, not paint correction, the detailing.

Isnt' the paint correction the groundwork for the detailing? No reason to apply any products before the basic paint itself is brought back to it's original (or better) state. Good waxes/sealants/glazes etc increase the shine, but major part of the shine and color comes from good quality paintwork.

And having few times assisted in full paint correction, believe me the $1300 is not a lot per hour. It takes a lot of time.

Oh: Handz. Great report and awesome looking car in the end!

My folks have a bissel carpet cleaner with a small upholstery attachment, can I use that to clean the carpets in my Mustang?

Yes. Just don't get the carpet soaking wet, and when complete allow it to fully dry to ensure no mold can start forming underneath it.

Air dry or take a hair dryer to it?

Use the cleaner to suck the water out and air dry.

Ok, cool.

What would it take to get rid of white scratch(scuff?) on the door?

Got a photo and more details on the damage?

Yeah, sorry for the delay...

What kind of lubricant?

I don't know, I bought it like that.
