The Funny Maths Thread.. which sometimes contains mildly amusing pictures

^ Some of those number aren't right, or I'm not reading them correctly. Toyota this time around has 194,350 sold and last year they had 184,462 sold. 194,350 > 184,462 but it says that sales went down 2.7%?

If you visit the page, it says this at the bottom:

All percentages are reported as the change in Daily Sales Rate because there were 26 selling days in April 2008 versus 24 in April 2007. Comparing the raw number of vehicles sold both months would not be accurate because of this discrepancy in selling days, so we report the change in the average number of vehicles sold per day.

184,462 / 24 = 7686
194,350 / 26 = 7475

Going by that, Toyota really did drop 2.7%.

They are using the Daily sales rate to calculate the percentages. There were two more selling days in April of 2008 compared to April of 2007. I don't really agree with using that methodology as most of the US can buy a car on Sunday now. There are still some states that require car dealerships to be closed on Sundays and even in states that allow dealerships to be open on Sundays many dealerships choose to close. Our autogroup could be open on Sundays but we choose to close instead.

Golden Gate fails. Hard.
Seriously though, many people have tried (and often succeeded) to commit suicide from the bridge and really Caltrans can do nothing about it because a fence would increase its resistance to winds and potentially weaken the integrity of the bridge.

To me the most intersting thing is that the vast majority of people jump facing in towards the bay, rather than the ocean...

And why would you bother walking all the way out to the middle if you're just going to kill yourself???

Makes sense to me. The East side (as it says) is the pedestrian footpath, while the West side is the Bicycle path. People probably wouldn't cycle merrily to their deaths.

However, it would make an impression on more people to bike to the middle of the bridge and then jump; especially if you jump with the bike.

The Germans have thrown a huge wrench into that statement:

I think the first one is a repost.

But thanks anyway :)

Someone else took a pic of the same thing. By the looks of it, the very same building.
