The "New Toys" Thread

Received my new toys during the weekend from the USA, things are really cheap there.

The iPhone is really nice and quite of an upgrade because before it I was using a nokia 2610 because my SE k750i died.

Haven't taken any good pictures with it yet.

Jailbreaking is a joke. It's literally one click. Worst that could happen is you have to wipe the thing and have iTunes put it back to how it came outta the box, although it'll restore all your preferences for you if you want.

Unlocking for use on other carriers it a bit riskier as you have to dig deeper into the phone though, but it's still one click.

iPhones don't brick?

Supposedly no. You can always bring them into DFU mode and then restore via iTunes...

Heard of ppl you hae to restore all the time, but thats just if you're being dumb with it. Install a ton of alpha software on any system and chances are it might break ;-)

I never had to do it, and still I got 3 pages of apps on the thing..

Pretty nice indeed, but I should have gotten a Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 or a Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 because my sigma is f2.8 only until ~20mm and that is too wide for most things.

Nice pictures.
I am pretty sure that this lens will satisfy my needs completely, but I would trade those extra 20mm-s for a fixed aperture.

Genius 5.1 surround sound speakers. For ?40 they are pretty good. I haven't been able to plug them into the PS3 yet as they have only one set of inputs for my computer, using 3.5mm jacks, so the phono or optical outputs from the PS3 won't fit.

To get the sound from the PS3 into the speakers.

Impossible to brick it via Jailbreaking AFAIK. Not sure about unlocking though as you have to hack deeper into the Phone to do that.

^ I unlocked an iPhone with the latest firmware through ZiPhone and it went perfectly fine. It's working on non-AT&T networks without any problems, though I didn't try EDGE or anything like that.

^ Nice Shawn, did you get it from the States? I'll be getting one soon and will have it unlocked by a friend to use with Rogers.

^ Nope, I got if off craigslist from someone who had bought 5 from Seattle and brought them over. I don't have an iPhone though, got it for someone else.

You shouldn't even have to bother your friend about unlocking it. Just download ZiPhone, plug in the iPhone, click one button and you're jailbroken/unlocked in 3 minutes.

Just not zIphone 3.0 if you plan on using multiple iphones within a Wlan... Or, be sure not to run the Wifi Fix...

Yeah, I'd use iLiberty as well. From what I read, Zibri from ZiPhone stole their code anyway.

Also, you can go for the Pwnage Tool, which is a bit like using a cracked firmware to restore, but I heard of very few problems with it. Dunno...

I bought a D-Link a few months back and today was the first time ever I've had to restart it.

The D-Link I had before restarted itself twice a day. You also had to (hardreset - power off) reset it every time, since it disconnected it's WAN connection.
