We thought our dreams of selling up in 2-3 and moving to somewhere that isn't the UK had been totally scuppered by Brexit.

Turns out that isn't 100% true.

No language barrier, right hand drive cars and still have access to free healthcare? GET IN!

Way cool!

Met up with more internet randoms today! I responded to a Reddit thread, from a Canadian guy who was coming to Aus on holiday with his partner, and was interested in meeting locals while he was here. We exchanged contact details, and have been messaging for a couple of weeks, getting to know each other and so forth, and organised today to meet up.

They also bumped into another Toronto resident on their walking tour of Sydney, and invited him along to have lunch with us. A couple of them had kangaroo burgers, which they didn't mind, then we found a pub, had a beer, and then made a plan to walk across the Harbour Bridge. One way was enough, so we went to the wharf and caught a ferry back to where we started from. The boys headed back to their AirBnB, and hotel to go for a swim, and I had to trek back to the car, parked on the other side of the CBD.

It was a great day, I got to explore bits of my own city I'd never been to, and I made some new friends, with an offer of a place to stay when I eventually make it to Toronto!

Mango farmers expect bumper crop this year

Surat: Love mangoes, then rejoice. Mango farmers of south Gujarat are hopeful of a good harvest this season. The cold atmosphere after Diwali has ensured there was no additional vegetative growth, which in turn pushed heavy flowering in the plants.

For the past two years, the region has been witnessing only 50 per cent production and mango farmers want to reap at least 80 per cent harvest this season.
A few of those will hopefully make it to my part of the world! :-D

So a few months ago I went to see my doctor about persistent night time acid reflux and heartburn and on Weds I went to the local endoscopy unit for an upper GI investigation.

Gastroscopy went as expected. Uncomfortable, 3cm hiatus hernia, a couple of precautionary biopsies and a sample taken from the duodenum to double discount Helicobacter Pylori. Plus letter to GP to continue with maintenance dose of omeprazole.

In car terms basically I have a leaky head gasket but still functioning if topped up daily with coolant.

I don't have it, but hiatus hernia sounds like no fun. :(

It's not that bad. It's certainly preferable to a gastric carcinoma.

In these hard times there's little good news that can make us happy, but it's the little things that can put a smile on our faces. I was delighted to find out that tonight Instagram finally made Instagram music available to our region. It's such a stupid, insignificant little thing, but it made me so happy nevertheless.

Today was a shitty day, but it got brightened up a bit by the fact that I got a €20 reimbursement from the tyre manufacturer for buying a set of their tyres. Because marketing.

I was just informed that I got the promotion I've been working towards for the last year and a half.

Today was a very great day because of two things: while I was at a customer I received a phone call which bewildered me at first since I didn't know the number, but the caller knew that I am diabetic and I have a bank account at a specific bank. Then it dropped on me: my wallet dropped out of my suitcase when I pulled out my face mask to wear at the customer. A construction worker found the wallet, sifted through it and saw the card which stated that I am diabetic and had my mobile number on it. He didn't hesitate to call me so I was able to retreive the wallet. I'd say faith in humanity restored.
Then when I came home I had a package waiting which contained the rim-tape I was annoyed about the day before yesterday. This way I was able to fix the rim so I have a whole set of road wheels and a whole set of gravel wheels for my gravel bike. ^_^ Hey, don't laugh - you might have a set of summer wheels and a set of winter wheels for your car which could be replaced by a set of wheels with all-season tires... ;-)

I received the yearly invoice from my gas provider, and it tells me I'm getting back €135 for the last twelve months, and the monthly payment will also be reduced. Apparently I managed to reduce my gas consumption by over 20%, without even trying. Must have been a warm winter. Plus Corona effects.

Whoa, the company Gigaset is really great regarding customer support: I bought a used smartphone for my mum, the software is especially designed for elderly people. That said, it's "just" an app which is launched automatically when the phone starts, but it provides big icons and fonts so it's easier to use for elderly people.

The first thing I do when I buy a used phone is resetting it to factory default. Unfortunately the app isn't part of the factory default setting since it's a normal smartphone, the factory only installs said app after the factory default settings are loaded. That means when you reset it to factory default that app is deleted as well. Currently you can't install the app yourself (I guess to stop people from just installing it on other Android smartphones) so you have to contact support, send the smartphone away and they are installing the app.

So here I was on Tuesday with a smartphone reset to factory default and my mum's birthday looming on Saturday so I contacted support, they sent me a return label and I sent it away, fully prepared to give my mum just the empty package and say "well, the content will arrive sometime next week". Imagine my surprise when I looked at my E-Mails and found that the package will be delivered to me today. (y) It didn't even take two days including shipping twice through half of Germany to get the smartphone back. :)

Oh, and support told me they are working on releasing a software so customers can install the app themselves. It's currently in testing and they can't tell when it'll be released, but at least it's foreseeable.

From about 2003 to not-all-that-many years ago, I bought lots of pornography DVDs from local stores. A *lot* of pornography DVDs. 469 (69...nice...) to be exact. But...the strange thing is...I didn't really watch many of them. I had an unhealthy addiction to...I'm not exactly sure what. Was it the browsing and taking ownership of it? Maybe...because I've had home internet access since I was 17, so why else would I *purchase* it on physical media up until, like...2017.

But an unfortunate aspect of this, it that just the concept of pornography is offensive to my girlfriend. I've tried finding "healthy relationship" and "for women, by women" content, but it just doesn't appeal to her. Which is A-OK.

...but it means I've kept my stash hidden...which is hard to do when its 450+ DVDs (even when kept in CaseLogic binders), and even through a home remodel where everything we owned (including the bed we slept in) got compressed into one tiny bedroom fo 7 months, which we eventually moved out of into a 2nd completely empty room, and one small storage facility, which she also had access to.

Last week, I spent about 20 hours documenting it in secret, and listing it on ebay. Every last disc. So far, 12 of the 15 lots have sold, with small bids in place on the last 3, and I'm up to $772 in sales. It feels really really good to clear it out, even though that total is a fraction of what was spent (ever price out porn releases from a retail store? Some as high as $45 per title, but some were clearance "buy 3 at $9.99 each, get 2 free" but there weren't many of those later scenarios. Even if it's $12/disc average, that's over $5,600).

It feels like a weight's been lifted.

...my boss told me we would get a "Corona relief bonus" at the next payday. :) Currently I don't know how much it will be, but he told me I would get the biggest bonus since I'm the most valuable employee. :)

That said, since the situation fortunately didn't impact anything income- or spendingwise (I didn't even have any reduced working hours) I'll give the whole bonus to charity.

I mean, you think that's weird, but people are clearly still doing it in 2020 'cause they're buying them off you. :ROFLMAO:
