Just checked the current African statanding and despite the win, 2010 hosts South Africa will not be qualifiying in 2014. Ranked 7th in Africa and 49th world. (for FIFA 2011)

CAF 2014 Qualifiers

.. and I thought that Azerbaijan was in Asia. :?

Well, it is but a little bit is in Europe next to Russia and I checked with the CIA. (Factbook, that is.) So, similar to Turkey.

EDIT:

PS: The size & organisation of the FIFA 2014 qualification process is huge!

Portugal had to face both Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan in the run up to Euro 2008, that was a lot of traveling. On the African qualifiers, Cape Verde has made it to the final round of elimination for the first time ever. It would be a truly momentous occasion it they made it through, probably the smallest country ever within a shout of making it to the World Cup.

Results from September 8.

Africa

Sudan 2:3 Lesotho
Kenya 1:0 Namibia
Benin 2:0 Rwanda
Togo 2:1 Congo DR
Cameroon 1:0 Libya
Zimbabwe 1:1 Mozambique

The ten teams in the final elimination round for Africa:

Ethiopia, Cape Verde, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Egypt, Algeria, Cameroon, Senegal.

Not a great game to watch or good performances, but England got a point and with two remaining fixtures at Wembley are in reasonable shape to qualify, maybe.

A couple of not given pens, could have changed England's night. So a bit lucky, but probably a desreved draw, as Ukraine didn't do much either.

Gerrard, Cahill and Jag played well, also well done to Frank Lampard for 100 caps.

Further proof tonight that Norway is a shit football nation. Good thing I'm 1/2 Dutch...

Denmark redeemed themselves with a very solid performance against Armenia tonight :) It did take a penalty to get the 0-1 win, but we'll take it :)

It's still looking pretty damn hard to qualify, but at least it's looking better than it did two games ago. At this point we need the Czech Republic to take points from Bulgaria, and we need to beat Italy in a month.. Both are stretches, Bulgaria have been strong, and obviously Italy is never an easy nation to get a win against. Italy are qualified at this point, so they don't have anything to play for anymore. That's a plus for us I guess.

We're in serious need of a quality striker as well. I'd really wish Bendtner was actually playing some football, he's still easily our strongest player in that position.

Qualified teams and play-offs watch:

Africa (5 spots)

Ethiopia, Tunisia, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Egypt, Algeria, Cameroon, and Senegal have made it to the final play-off round.

Asia (4.5 spots)

Australia, Iran, Japan, Korea Republic. Jordan in intercontinental play-off.

Europe (13 spots)

Italy, Netherlands.

North, Central America and Caribbean (3.5 spots)

Costa Rica, USA. In the final two match days, Honduras, Mexico and Panama will fight to secure third and fourth places in the group, the latter having to face New Zealand in an intercontinental play-off.

South America (4.5 spots)

Argentina, Brazil. Uruguay and Ecuador look like the strongest candidates to finish in fourth (qualifies) and fifth (play-off round) places, with Venezuela also with an outside chance of reaching the elimination round against Jordan.

avanti wearing his "weekend leisure" look. :p

Yes, yes, congrats to Italia and the Dutchies, also to our American & Costa Rican FG members / fans. (Clint Dempsey of Spurs with 8 goals! Hmm, pretty good I reckon.)

Now well and all good but, can we have the UCL and European Leagues back please FIFA/ UEFA? :glare:

So much for that. In a rather dramatic turn of events, FIFA has excluded the "blue sharks" for the irregular fielding of a player. The local FA is appealing, but for now, Tunisia has taken their spot in the play-off. The draw is on Sept. 16.

Ah, that's bad luck for the fans, players and Country.

The cause must be between the Cape Verde FA and the Coach. I don't think an appeal is likely to work, if it has already gone this far.

Oh god we need to beat Italy tonight.. Praying to the football gods right about now.

And congratulations to Belgium, Switzerland, Germany and Colombia who have now qualified for Brasil 2014.

England got a good result with a bit of a flattering scorline, but not a great performance.

Andros Townsend scored a very nice goal and was got the MotM award.
Rooney opened the scoring and Sturridge won a late pen and then scored it himself.
