Happens all the time. If you think about it a 4G enabled iPad (other tablets are available) is, essentially, the Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy and flip phones were the communicators from Star Trek.

Might even be worth a thread.

So, it's not longer a test, since it was an actual mission with payload. This is awesome!
The first two landings were actual missions as well. What makes this one special is that they were going to GTO with a large satellite. That is a much higher energy orbit so less fuel available for recovery.

It also means re-entry temps from the higher velocity. Remember friction is the cube of speed so going just s bit faster puts tremendous extra stress on falcon 9 during re-entry.
