I'd love too see superbikes at Sachsenring rather than N?rburgring, it's a brilliant track and a favorite of mine in the MotoGP calendar.

I'll really have to try and follow WSBK a bit closer this year. In the last few years I've always remembered it was a race weekend the monday after. Seems like I don't even know half the riders anymore whenever I watch a race these days. So many sports to follow yet so little time...

And I can't go this year...

(although the fact that I'm potentially going to MotoGP instead more than makes up for it!!! :D)

Going to see a GP or WSBK race, and do a track day at PI is definitely on my bucket list.

If you are only going to do one, do the WSBK race. The atmosphere is amazing, there are much less people than at a GP and if you get a 3 day pass to the races you can do a pit walk for free on the Friday morning (which is how I got to see and meet the likes of Haga, Fabrizio, Haslam and Neukirchner). They also set it up better- the only grandstand is on the straight (which is a crap place to watch IMO at PI), so you just turn up early with your lawn chairs and picket a spot right against the fence. Mind you, I have only been to the WSBK race last year, so my assessment is based purely on that and my parent's experience of the 2 GPs they've been to in recent years. And given that Dorna wants to move the PI GP to early March, time-wise you may be able to see both!!!

/little WSBK pitch and boast

I have already seen two GP's in person (Mugelo and the first Indy, aka "The Hurricane"), so WSBK would definitly be my preference. Anyway, it's not going to happen anytime soon :(

Just going to leave this here....

Race should be pretty interesting. Not gonig to put my opinions of Biaggi here (before or after this incident), they aren't too polite. Crutchlow summed it up pretty well on twitter though I'd say for most people.

ok i'm going to don my newbie hat since i have to ask a noob question here. When it comes to WSBK, is there differing classes like in MotoGP. i noticed that theres more than one race and trying to understand what the smeg is going on.

EDIT: Ok, i think i managed to wrap my head around it. there are two main races and there are points that get combined for a total in the GP? My brain is going to turn into a gooey mess by the end of the weekend. Took a while to get used to MotoGP. This might take a bit longer.

Also i love how Karma has truly come around and bitch-slapped Biaggi throughout the day. He's going to have a lot of explaining to do to the team.

There are two classes, WSBK (Superbike, 1000cc 4 cylinder bikes or 1200 twins), the main class,
and WSS (Supersport, 600cc 4 cylinder bikes, or 675 triples, or 750cc twins), the "support" class.

The Superbike class allows extensive modifications, while the Supersport class is more restrictive.

At each round, there is 2 Superbike races and one Supersport. There is no combination of the two race results, rider are classified individually for each race.

Back to yesterday's races, great Superbike races, for once they where more interesting than the Supersport one.

Awesome ride from Melandri, I'm a big fan of him but I have to admit I had my doubts about what he would achieve in WSBK. Glad I was wrong.

I hope we finally see a BMW on the top step of the podium this year.

WTF moment of the race:

thanks for the explanation. i remember watching yesterdays race and thinking "hang on a minute, i saw him in the first race!" slightly boggled the mind for a while.

This picture just begs for a caption competition

http://www.bikesportnews.com/news-detail.cfm?newstitle=Drugs-found-in-Kawasaki-Racing-Team-trucks-claim&newsid=58

A report by the UK Border Agency has alleged that trucks belonging to the Kawasaki WSB Racing Team were found to have contained quantities of class A drugs and a firearm when stopped at Dover on their way from Italy last month.

Officers allegedly found 18lbs (8kg) of cocaine, 157lbs (71kg) of amphetamine tablets and more than 220lbs (100kg) of cannabis. It was also alleged a handgun and 35 rounds of ammunition were also left lying on a table, unconcealed.

Four technicians from Paul Bird Motorsport, based in Morecambe, Lancashire ? the company which runs the Kawasaki team ? were arrested on suspicion of firearms offences and importing controlled drugs. They were later bailed.

They were Philip Roe, 40, a mechanic and truck driver with the team; Gary Matthews, 50, a truck driver and tyre technician; Mattia Fontana, 27, an Italian mechanic; and Daniel Swyer, 32, who is also a mechanic.

Attempts to contact the team have so far been unsuccessful.

then follow up

http://www.bikesportnews.com/news-detail.cfm?newstitle=We-are-completely-innocent---Bird&newsid=71
PBM Kawasaki team boss Paul Bird has said the class A drugs found by the UK Border Agency in his race trucks at Dover were planted and those members of his team are totally innocent.

The agency has alleged quantities of drugs and a handgun were discovered in an inspection, and four members of staff were arrested and subsequently bailed.

Speaking to bikesportnews.com at Oulton Park this lunchtime, Bird said: "As far as I am aware, it has been accepted these materials were planted in the truck, most likely in the paddock as Assen.

"I believe these men are completely innocent and I do not expect any action against them by the authorities. It has, however, been an extremely difficult time for our team and Kawasaki."
