The Worst Cabriolet............. In The World!

Not the worst for sure, they are both decent but somehow I hate both, maybe because of the owners...

I think these look fantastic.

The winner/loser is the Pluriel.

I never understood convertible Escort Mk3-5s.

Yes but you didn't wear white towelling socks, have highlights in your hair or shop at Benneton in the late 80s.

Neither did I, but I saw enough of those wankers at the time to understand. They were the Guidos of their time.

I thought this thread was about the new Mercedes Maybach G Landaulet thing. I am disappoint.

This! I love G-class, since it's introduction it has always been the best true offroader in Europe (sorry Brits, I love the Defender, but G-class is much newer and advanced. And early 70s Gs are more refined than last 2016 Defenders). Especially the base models have been quite honest to their roots. I don't mind AMGs, I wouldn't buy one, but they certainly make the money and keep the G profitable.

...and now Mercedes-Benz managed to turn the G-class into uncool safari yacht for those who definitely have too much money and no taste.

I'd rather be seen in a Punto Cabriolet.

It's fun to drive, it's a 950kg convertible, and looks better than some other options one could get really.

And mine is purple :p

The actual worst cabriolet in the world:

They took a bad truck and in the process of making it a convertible actually made it worse. Most of the time an open-top offroader can be fun, like in a Wrangler/CJ or early Bronco. Instead, driving this was actually even less enjoyable than driving the hard top and not due to any added floppiness - it was body on frame and reinforced. Wind blast in the cabin was reportedly horrific and the top was not only ugly but it often leaked. It was reportedly the first convertible with no redeeming properties many reviewers had ever driven.

Oops.

Yours is better, it's the Mk5 that really confuses me. I don't even really know why it just doesn't seem right. I don't understand the Focus with the metal folding roof either, there was one around here and I think it's hideous. I was amazed to see the Pininfarina badge on it, not one of the best designs IMO.

Pretty much any 4-seater Coup?-Cabrio, or folding hardtop. They are heavy, the roof is complicated and makes noises after a while, and they look misproportioned because of the space needed for the mechanism. I'm glad this category is as good as dead now.

Worst offenders:

Peugeot 308 CC

Ford Focus CC

Nissan Micra CC

Yeah, they're all terrible. One of the few folding metal roof cars that looks good is the original Mercedes-Benz SLK, as it doesn't have back seats and is RWD. The above cars are just a way of ruining a decent hatchback by introducing an amazingly contrived mechanical ballet that doesn't look good open, closed or stuck.

I don't really love the MX-5 RF either. I might even prefer the Del Sol TransTop, as it doesn't have fake side windows.

Geez, I didn't know that.

If for no other reason, here's the trunk. Ignore the rest of the carbage-y aspects, and it's still ridiculous.

Rather than move the latch along with everything else that had to be moved, they built a half-hatch that does nothing but get in the way. And how many cents per car did this save them?

Drives horibly, has no power, feels like the back with detach and the 1,6L with a manual doing 60 km/h in fifth gear shows 12 000 RPM! It had to be made with at least 9 gears!

This is my guilty pleasure, I love the way it looks.

Not defending the pity cruiser, but the lid does go further up in a stock model - still useless though
