Ownership Verified: Viper's 2008 Dodge Viper SRT-10 (A 17+ Year Dream Come True!)

Congratulations!

This must be quite a nice moment :)

Plasti Dip is the best.

I know it's not *on* a Viper, but Viper rims:

Bumping this gentleman up. Plasti Dip is amazing, and a LOT easier to maintain than powdercoating and matte paint. And you can get whatever color you want.

plasti dip is definitely NOT easier to maintain than powder coat or automotive paint with hardener in it. plasti dip peels right off and does not survive tire changing for sure. it has no durability at all. the only thing it survives is car washes that don't pressure wash.

i used plasti dip on the winter wheels for my truck. it worked great. just to note though, people on my other car forum found that you can not get tire shine on it or it melts it.

that being said if i owned a viper i would not be comfortable with plasti dip as the end product, just seems like the car would need everything done with quality finish like professional powder coat or pant with a hardener in the clear coat. plasti dip might be a nice way to see if you like the look though. it peels right off if you don't like it. you don't need to prep the surface before putting it on other than cleaning it with dishsoap or something that will get wax/brake dust/grease off.

i also agree that the flat finish would not look right on that car. i would go gloss black or gunmetal. obviously i'm a fan of gunmetal wheels.

It would be nice to see what the car looks like with black wheels temporarily. Just wouldn't want long term damage.

I'm still debating ACR wheels. They're lighter for less unsprung weight and look quite good:

Okay, maybe not quite so good on that car as it has white stripes, but still.

Here's some painted ACR wheels but he has stripes which makes it necessary:

But I might as well stick to no customizations if I want light colored wheels.

The secret is to shield the Plasti Dip with the appropriate clear coat. It keeps all those effects you're talking about from happening, with the exception of the pressure wash issue, and still allows it to be peeled off by hand without harming what's underneath.

How about beadblasting/sandblasting your current wheels to knock down the shine?

Viper, happy you finally got your car. I've been at 2 different pickups for vipers and its always fun to see the reactions.

If you don't know about these yet, join viper alley http://www.viperalley.com/ and the VCA http://www.viperclub.org/ If you can make it to VOI 12, do it. video my buddy Greg took as a joke at VOI11. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D119SMkp5j8 still talks about it.

If you need anything, this is the place to get it. http://www.viperpartsrack.com/

My buddies use him almost exclusively. Regardless, have fun with the car. and enjoy it every day. Crashed my RS4 in January and the altima I'm driving isn't much fun so enjoy having an awesome car. the rest of us need to live vicariously through you.

I wouldnt try and mess with the current wheels, if you really want them toned down, can they not do a brush metal effect ala Delorean? Otherwise get a second set of duplicate wheels and make those gunmetal, black is too severe, gunmetal has the right amount of gloss and darkness to it so it looks right, light colour wheels dont work on that car, neither do too dark ones imo

Beautiful car; I was in Vegas with work and spent the whole time lusting after a rental Viper, but just couldn't justify how expensive it was. I think the ACR wheels look great, painted or not. Lucky guy!

Whatever you do do not go grey with the wheels.......it just looks wrong on a bright blue car and especialy on a Viper, no idea why.

Those shiny ACR's look right on the money.

You do if you drive it through town at 2 kph, it IS a Viper remember :p

But you do see them every time you drive, unless you walk to your car with your eyes closed.

Already a member of VCA and met up with my local club to start planning cruises for this summer a few weekends ago.

From all of the threads I've read on Viper Alley, that place is full of idiots and children. I have no plans to hang out there.

No plans to go to VOI this year but I've seen that video. Hilarious!

https://www.viperpartsofamerica.com/ seems to have a bigger selection and better prices (bought a front plate bracket already from him) but I'll make sure to check both places when looking for a part. :)

EDIT: Oops, ha, It was Parts Rack that I bought the plate from actually! Yeah, cool site. Tires are cheaper on VPOA though and the VCA membership gets me some discounts there.

Got the plates moved over (sorry for the shitty picture, I didn't remember to take a photo until I had it in the garage already):

And remember, safety is key! The back seat is the safest place for children!

They're right. Children do belong in the trunk.
