What car(s) did you hate at launch but have grown to like as time has passed? Or vice versa

So earlier today I happened to walk past a metallic blue Chrysler Crossfire. Really didn't think much of them when they came out and agreed with the majority that it rather looked like a dog taking a dump but I reckon the years have been kind to them and while I would never buy one for numerous reasons I have to confess I've changed my mind and actually quite like the way it looks.

Or are there any cars that you really liked on launch that you've grown to hate?

I'm still on the fence about the Alfa Giulia though....

Anyone else experienced a similar change of heart? If so what car?

Most modern Ferraris. Hate their looks at launch, but pretty much all of them have grown on me since. Only notable exception is the 612 Scaglietti. I thought the front end looked goofy when it launched and I still think it does.

I haven't liked the looks of any Ferrari really since the 355 and 456. They focus too much on form following function and not enough on the aesthetics for me.

Pretty sure Enzo would agree with me.

I still think you’re wrong on the Crapfire haha, but I would say that the E60 BMW would be the one for me. I was still butthurt about the then new Bangle butt, but (heh) I think they’ve aged well.

Every Subaru released in my lifetime with the exception of the Tribeca. Hideous when they come out, look better as they age.

The post facelift E65 Looks okay to me now, utterly disgusting when it was released. Not that I would have one over an E38 you understand.

Hated it, now I like it:
Ferrari FF - Wasn't a fan of the looks at launch, but I'm growing to like the shooting brake design.
Porsche Panamera - Again, didn't like the looks, but I would honestly love to have one in the garage as our sedan/roadtrip/take guests around car.
Ferrari California - Originally saw it as something a footballer buys their trophy wife to drive to the salon when the kids are at school. Now, of all the Ferraris in production, it's the one I would pick for myself.
Lexus GX470: Stupid softroader soccer mom-mobile with doofy back end and strange proportions. Now I'm considering buying one to replace the Xterra, stripping off the horrible urethane abortion of a bumper, removing the air suspension, and making it a proper overland machine.
Toyota Land Cruiser FJ100 Series: Hated them for being overweight luxo-barges with IFS. Now I've come to appreciate IFS, the desire for some comforts, and the FJ200 has shown me how far a utility vehicle can really fall.

Liked it, now I hate it:
Toyota 4Runner: Used to love it for the off road ability and looks. Now I hate the limited visibility, the stupid hood, the stupid fake air scoop, the numb... everything, and the horrible hard seats.

I think the K11 Nissan Micra has aged fairly well.

Chrysler PT Crui... just kidding. 😝

I can't think of much but I wanted to post that so I suppose I should come up with something. Bloody Multipla has a certain charm to it now I suppose, the stupid old thing. I used to think the FIAT Coupe was ugly too.

Old Volvo’s. Like amazon, 240, 960. They were a bit of a nothing for me.

I think Old Mercedes too. 230E, 190 cosworth...

Ford sierras. :D

Porsche Panamera. At first it was just odd. Much like when the cayenne came out. Sure it’s like a 911 with a viagra but, they did a much better job than the Cayenne. Both have gotten better with revisions but the Panamera is really good now. The Quartroporte on the other hand, that’s ugly and time hasn’t done it any favors.

You having an opinion at the Amazons, 240s or 190Es launches seems suspect.

Maybe I had a time machine, who knows?

I misunderstood and chose to interpret this as “what didn’t you like at first but has grown on you with time?”

Bentley Continental GT. I thought it was big and awkward. Now I realize just how handsome it is.

While I agree with you, the CGT has gone through multiple iterations and has gradually improved each time. Some of the early ones still look awkward depending on color and wheel combination.

Seeing both Top Gear reviews of the Cayenne and VW Touareg changed my mind. Back then I thought only full frame SUV’s from the big three Americans brands were the only ones worth their weight. Oh how was I wrong.
