Where would you like to see the magazine?

I was in the US for a long time, (some servers still show US ip addresses, i brought my computer over the Atlantic back to the UK). But TG magazine was fairly popular where I lived, though the importing was S-L-O-W; the magazines themselves were almost always three weeks late, and even a month late if you went for the original UK edition. But they went from the shelves very quickly, so I assume it sold well.

in Heathrow Airport!!

I had a 2 hour stopover there last week and looked all over my terminal for one, and couldnt find it. They might have been out though, I did find a Top Gear car review magazine with only reviews though.

Im going there again in 2 days, hopefully Ill have better luck...its a long flight back home!

Hey TGUKGLM,

It would be great if you had a Chilean edition of Top Gear magazine, the show has kind of an underground following here in Chile but its quite large, and I'm trying to help it get bigger! HaHa. I read somewhere before you were intrested in Chile, Argentina and Brazil.

Also some of the rumours of the guys coming to film here this year would help wth sales I'd imagine.

Cheers

I bought TG Magazine at Niece Intl. Airport for E9. Then saw it for L4 at my stopover at Hethrow.

I got ripped off. :(

We get the uk version in Belgium, (after you drive 20 miles in my case) only it would be nice to include the goodies aswel....wouldn't realy care if the magazine got more expensive because of that.

I have seen the netherlands version in dutch here aswel..... that's just wrong ;)

you, sir, are correct

I can find the UK version of the mag here, it just takes effort, because there's no logic in who has it. Big supermarket : nope, huge car related shop : not a chance, obscure little magazine store : BINGO

I get mine from a large magazinestore in Hasselt, thats the only place i know of witch is sortoff in my area, part from that there's not much round here....

They carry a large assortement of some rather REALY specialised magazines to btw, a "farming equipment monthly" anyone? something specialised in needlepoint? :p

I want it here but the original one, not a special edition in spanish :yucky:

top gear is only know by car fans were i come from

Voiceofid - yes, it is quite expensive to subscribe. The price difference between that and the US mags is explained partly by the weight. If you compare TG to Rolling Stone, for example, you'll see it's about twice as thick. When you factor in the air-freighting, it racks up the cost.

I know this is an older post...but...

That does NOT explain the cost to us here in America. :(

Right now, on the site..it's $149 a year?

I'm assuming for that, James May delivers it in a flaming caravan??

(okay..I would pay $149 for that....:p)

What I've been doing is: have my bf in Norfolk buy me a copy each month...then mail it to me.

Even doing this, on a one to one basis...and the fact that for each copy it's rather labor intensive..

I only pay about 20% of the official cost to us here in America.

I do the same, my aunt is currently an American expatriot in London (uncle got a job transfer from NY to London, works for Unilever), and she buys it in the local shops in Little Venice and whenever she comes back to visit for the Jewish holidays she gives the recent one to me...

still have to pay her back for her troubles.

It's $10 here and always late--I think it has something to do with a mixture of the old exchange rate and the VAT...

Can i recommend Slovenia.
Yes i know it's a small country whit a small market, but you would believe how many Top gear fans are here.
And if you do consider bringing the TG mag here, just export the UK version.

As I've said before, and I know we have a local version but that's not enough

Ok, another thing. Why do 13 issues of TG Mag UK cost ?35.50 for those in the UK and ?89 for me to get them? I would pay ?35 to get it without hesitation. Do I live in some sort of remote village where the postman has to swim 10 km upstream and fight wild bears and wolfs just to give me my magazine? And from what I've heard, no DVDs or extras for us as well.

Oh, and isn't the thickness generated by commercials?

although TG would probably refuse to search my country and would ignore the map, i would be pleased to have such mag in my country - Lithuania, or at least in Latvia or Estonia or even in Poland (i often visit those countries, so it's not a big problem), because AUTOCAR makes me yawn already

i only read the first page and searched for references regarding hong kong but here i go...
(this is just my honest opinion and feedback)

i am a local resident in hong kong, where i have found out that since last year, there was a localised chinese version of the magazine which i was glad as it allows more local readers to know about top gear - especially since there was a big hype since Top Gear Live came last year or was it the summer that just passed, although i think most are english families, car enthusiasts and a small amount of people like me who know top gear and so.
however, due to me having only glimpsed through the local magazine once in a convenience store (circle K/7-eleven) - and my chinese reading is rather poor despite being chinese, i considered the magazine to might have lost a bit of the style and flow of the original UK/english based Top gear magazines. maybe i'll give it a shot again later to spot out the differences, but if it attracts more of the local market, then i have no objection as to how the magazine is currently being made.

As for the original UK Top Gear magazine, it can be found at selected bookstores/newsagents at about 70/80 hkd or so = 5.4-6.2 pounds/9-10usd according to current exchange rates. i'm not sure if that is good for you, but at least i am able to see it i guess that is pretty good. i read through a few articles/one particular issue once and i thought it was a great magazine.

i also visited australia earlier and will be moving there to study, and i saw a local version at the sydney international airport and i was quite impressed despite not buying it or had a chance to read through some of it.

keep up with the good work!:D
