Last night as Britain had some rather high winds, I had a phone call from my wife who was stuck in Birmingham as virtually all the trains had stopped running and they could put on a replacement bus service because the coach companies refused to release their coaches as they felt it too dangerous, which given what the winds were doing to my car they were probably right. So she had no way of getting home. Eventually she got a train to Oxford which is easier to get to than Birmingham but is still an hour's drive.
So had it not been for my car she would not have been able to get home at all and I am sure many were in that situation.
