I am all for Dempsey, Allen and Leno, I think its the perfect mix. Dempsey provides something for the girls to look at in addition to being a dedicated car guy.

At the koni challenge he came 6th out of 39. He was quoted saying:
Quote:
"I really enjoy racing much more than I enjoy doing the show"
He also drove the pacecar at the 2007 Indianapolis 500.

Never realized Dempsey was into cars, but I'm sure he has an exclusivity contract and is really busy with ABC. Plus, I couldn't think of him for anything but being McDreamy on what's basically a soap opera now.

Leno
Allen
Seinfeld
My vote has been cast... images/smilies/smile.gif

I can't wait. Any new show on cars is fun to watch. One that uses a show as great as Top Gear as a model will surely be entertaining on some level, maybe even great.

I'm also excited that if they have a live audience and it's somewhere in the Southwest, that I might actually be able to go.

My vote:
Leno
Allen

And Seinfeld can be shot out of a canon into the sun for all I care... actually, I do care. I would pay to see that.

What about more of an "everyman" host?

Not sure if anyone here has ever seen Allens special edition cars, but they've all been crap. And then he does crappy "Look at my awesome car" pep rallies for the press. Yeah, no. Maybe at the height of tool time could he have done it, but he's sold out...

Yeah I've come to the point where I can no longer tolerate him, I used to watch that show he had on ABC there that everyone refers to as tool time even though that was the name of the show he was on on his show. If he were on this and ever once did that stupid grunt thing he does I'd reach through the freaking tv and strangle him and since this is going to be on NBC and there is an HD broadcast location nearby for an NBC channel it could happen in HD. images/smilies/lol.gif

Might've been funny if they didn't allow some writers who hate cars write it.

Regardless of who hosts the show...celebrity or normal guy (my vote is normal guy)... My real fear is the corporate backing of NBC. BBC Top Gear has the freedom to slam car makers if they honestly do not like the car..

My fear is in the US, the hosts will be forced to tame it down and be so P.C. they will never say what they really think. NBC will be so fearful of GM/Ford, etc..threatening to pull advertising, becuase they said thier car sucks. If that happens, then this show will fail before it even gets off the ground as it will turn into nothing but one large commercial...

Besdes the dry humor of Clarkson, I trust them when they say this car sucks...and proves it. Think of when they tested the Ford Mustang GT 500, they slammed it.

I can image what would happen in the US version: Ford would threaten to pull ad money from NBC; NBC would freak and tell the presenters to be nice. So all we'll hear is Jay Leno going "Wow this Ford is great ha-ha..now out to the guys on the street for stupid questions"..

This is why I think most car shows in the US suck so bad..fear of loosing ad $$$$. If NBC had some balls and will Let the hosts just do the show honestly and come off as "just one of the guys"...I think it could have a chance. Like others stated in this thread, I also think Jay Leno unscripted and just talking cars, is actually really knowledgable and entertaining. If they script him and try to do the tonight show with cars..it sucks.

I'd like to hear what people think..
