Default Canned. Now what?

Jeremy Clarkson has stated back in February or whatever that Top Gear America has been canned, which makes me think, now what? Where the hell is the pilot? Why can't NBC just show it already and let us decide if we want it or not? There have been pictures of Cheap Car Challenges, supposed show reels, pictures of three supercars with the presenters... that we will never be able to see in motion! What are they going to do with the pilot? Are we ever going to get a Top Gear America?

This will probably get locked, but I needed to let someone know how I feel, so, yeah.

What do you guys think?

If the Russians can get a show, why can't we? (We have better cars than them!)

I imagine it will just be put on a shelf in the NBC Studio Archives.

Rarely rejected pilots will be aired during the off season as a one-off special.

BBC Worldwide owns the pilot I believe, not NBC. NBC passed, so BBC shopped it around to some cable channels. No interest.

Honestly I think with the economy and such, I don't think anyone has the balls to pick it up.

I wish the BBC would just release it on iTunes and/or Hulu. They would recoup some of the cost in the process and maybe even be able to use it as a gauge of interest.

If not, I hope it's at least "leaked".

You know there are two pilots? The discovery channel shot one a few years back with an entirely different cast and Jon Favreau was the star in the reasonably priced car. The discovery channel one never saw the light of day so don't hold your breath for this one. I am sure that if you could get access to Adam Corola he would have a copy but don't think he wants you to pick it up at his place.

I think they just want it to go away and for everyone to forget the whole thing ever happened.

And then in a few months/years they'll try again.

Silly execs.

Does anyone know if this was shopped to SPIKE TV?

They have their "Horsepower Block" weekend mornings with automotive shows.

SPEED TV might be an option, as well. Their strong NASCAR focus could draw ratings as Chevy, Ford, Dodge and Toyota owners tune in to (hopefully) watch their marques succeed and the others fail.

I agree with Viper007Bond. I hope it is at least leaked on the web. The one off special sounds good to me also. I just want to see it.

The show was filmed and the guest interview was with Jon Favreau

also a search of topgear.com would have found the story with photos of the gang, favreau, stig, and cars

Apparently it was a wretched mess and many people forgot because from day one expectations were low and it did not get its own separate area to opine over the possibilities.

Cool. Thanks Momentum.

From that picture it looks like it would have sucked anyway.

I'm really wanting for someone to call in on the Adam Carolla podcast (he does take calls sometimes) and ask him if he's heard anything new about this. I'm sure I'm not the only person who's sore about NBC giving this show the cold shoulder...

And what would he know? He was only hired to to be a host on the pilot episode filming, he has no further knowledge or involvement on the plans NBC has for Top Gear.

We just got to accept that it's dead as a doorknob (as of right now), joining the thousands of other shelved unused pilots.

That's unfortunate, because Discovery Network seems like the ideal place for this.

I never got the appeal of having this show on network TV; yeah, you have more viewers... but less of a percentage of people who would actually get it.

I don't know about Discovery. It was the right place 5 years ago, but they've really gone for the trashy lowest common denominator lately. Back in the days of Junkyard Wars, real Trading Spaces, and all those shows their viewers would have eaten Top Gear up. Now I'm not so sure.
