Top Gear Australia has improved a lot in that department since their first season. If you watch early TG, especially the first season, they don't really have it down yet either (they didn't even have James May yet at that point).
The US version would probably have been similarly rocky at first but that's not to say they couldn't have hit their stride if given the chance.
